Their marriage may be over, but Pete Wentz and Ashlee Simpson's friendship is as strong as ever.

When Ryan Seacrest asked the Black Cards rocker how he's holding up since Simpson filed for divorce Feb. 9, the 31-year-old had only good things to say about his soon-to-be ex.

PHOTOS: Pete and Ashlee as a couple

"Ashlee's been my best friend for five years. She's the mother of my child," Wentz said during Seacrest's KIIS-FM radio show Monday. "I have nothing but love and respect for her."

He's not exaggerating: the duo (parents to son Bronx, 2) were spotted making two separate fast food runs in L.A. over the weekend.

PHOTOS: Shocking Hollywood splits

"Going through something like this isn't easy," Wentz added, "but we're friends and the most important thing is to put our son first."

PHOTOS: Couples who are better together

"Everything's a new discovery for him," the proud papa gushed. "His new thing is hiding cell phones and credit cards and stuff. I'm like, 'So where's dad's cell phone?' And he laughs. He thinks it's like a comedy bit."

None of us know the circumstances on why they're getting divorced. I for one was hoping they would stay together, they make a great couple. Maybe they jumped into it too soon, having a baby right away, they really didn't have time to enjoy and learn more about each other. However it goes, the nasty comments are plain pathetic and unnecessary. This site is full of BS. I can't believe how many of you come on here and post hate. It's NOT your life being blabbed all over the internet. Have a little respect, you don't know them. They didn't write this article.... non supporters, go post hate elsewhere. Some of us are true fans.

If they love and respect each other so much then why the hell are they getting divorced??? So stupid. Just another Hollywood failed marriage due to the petty, selfish desires of an adolescent mind-set (if things are so great on the basic most fundamental levels, then STAY TOGETHER and work the petty stuff out!) Don't give me that crap that it's better for the child--that is bogus. One word: SELFISH

My parents divorced when I was two and to this day 42 yrs later, they have never said a bad thing about each other. Nothing but kind words and respect for each other.

Good for Ashlee & Pete for remaining friends for the sake of Bronx. That's the most important thing putting the needs of your child first. I'm proud of them for that.

I'm really hoping they can work it out... even if they need to be apart for a while, like Pink and her husband Carey

She's gonna screw him over big time.

I should hope he "still loves and respects her"...they have been separated for about 5 minutes!

I am still carrying a torch for these two. I have a feeling they will reconcile.

I feel sorry for all these kids with "no dads"..pathetic that relationships are not taken seriously, but these celebrities are not the majority..which is good. I live around plenty of married couples with nice families and good relationships.

This happens all of the time. The moment the pressure and the title is gone from a relationship; it seems better. SMDH!!

Pretty sad when happy, friendly married couples can't even work to save their marriage. Marriages are so disposable these days, it's ridiculous.
