At ELLE's 17th Annual Women In Hollywood Tribute Monday in Beverly Hills, Goldie Hawn honored daughter Kate Hudson.
During her introduction, she recalled Hudson's raucous birth in 1979.
"I was on the 405, and she was inside me, and I was fooling around, and I felt really good, about 8 months [pregnant], and I was going to name her Rebecca because it was biblical and romantic and gentle. All of sudden, she punched me so hard in my you-know-where," Hawn, 64, told the audience. "I screamed and I said, ‘Oh my God. This is a Kate, not a Rebecca!' She is a Kate!"

On delivery day, Hawn continued, "I was lying there and they were slicing and dicing or whatever, I had a C-section, I had my nails done ... and all of sudden, out she comes and they said, 'It’s a boy!' And I said, 'No it’s a girl!' And, by the way, I didn’t know what it was. I just felt that it was a girl. And then they said, 'Oh, no it’s a girl!' And I said, 'What part of her anatomy were you looking at?!'"

Hawn said Hudson, now 31, was "a voracious eater. She is a voracious human being and she still likes to eat. And she is also voracious about life.
"I will say, I am very proud," Hawn continued, looking at her daughter. "I am deeply proud of your character, and I am very proud of your tenacity. You stick to your guns ... and I am proud of your talent."

When it came time for Hudson to speak, she said she was "emotional.
"I don’t know how I am going to follow my mother!" she went on. "I have learned so much from the people that I have been blessed enough to work with, and I can't wait for more," she said. "I have grown up watching my parents, and I have watched them in their incredible ability and their professionalism, and their body of work is also so inspiring to me. I only hope that I can live up to that in a way, or at least try as hard as I can."

As for being a woman in Hollywood, Hudson said no one can top her mother. "I have this stunning, iconic mother ... I have a grounded, aspiring, and philanthropist mother. She is not just a talent and crazy and gorgeous and beautiful. She is truly an inspiring mother. Again, I can only hope that, as a mother, I can live up to that."

11I love you both. Kate, show people that you will succeed. Goldie you would also look great in a cashemere coat.
I used to love Goldie from laugh in but when I saw her and her daughter in big FUR coats in a picture my heart turned to stone....I wonder if she realizes those animals are skinned alive to give her that animal skin to flaunt...Goldie is dead in my heart.....
She considers Kurt Russell her dad. Her and her brother both call him dad. Her bio dad didn't want anything to do with them and he's tried to get in contact with her and her brother but neither want anything to do with him and I can understand that. I'm such a fan of hers too.
Who is to say there had to be abuse on the part of Kate's father -- maybe Goldie was just a selfish witch who didn't think the man deserved to be recognized...I don't know what makes her so incredible?? I agree that Goldie shouldn't have stood between her kids and their real dad..to represent Kurt Russell as their "pa" is just Hollywood drama...btw why do I think Goldie was a selfish witch maybe?? Her first divorce from Gus Trikonis -- she made 3x as much money as him but she "resented" having to pay him alimony...wow...only women are supposed to get alimony?? That doesn't sound very incredible to me.
I have never heard of any abuse on the part of the Kate's biological father. Who knows what happened? Goldie is an incredible person and business woman. Not allowing the relationship between Kate and Oliver and their biological father was some issue she didn't want introduced to her children's lives. Kurt and Goldie have been together for years and seem as if they are a caring, loving couple in their own right AND to their children. I just hope I don't read about them splitting up - like Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins. Best to the whole family!
Thank you, Bea! I do feel Goldie should have allowed a relationship to develop. Being a crappy husband and an initially absentee father isn't a good enough reason (to me at least). Especially after she found a better fit with Kurt in the end. I understand Bill H. was on the road with his band a lot in the beginning. From the sound of it he has been trying to make amends for years even when the kids were young, though. I think it was wrong of Goldie to deny that. I think Kurt sounds like a good man, but still...pretty sad. Thanks for the info. Just something I had always wondered about...:)
why must we know this?
You would think she would have showered so her hair didn't look greasy if she was going to be honored...
According to Goldie, Bill Hudson was not much of a father or husband. He was never around. It was a nasty divorce & He tried many times to be a parent to oliver & Kate, but Goldie kept slamming the door on his face & put boyfriend Kurt Russell in the role as the father. I have never read anything that indicated he was abusive to Goldie & the kids. Only thing i can think of is that Goldie was a bigger star than her then husband Bill & maybe that caused problems in the marriage, I'm not sure.
I still don't understand the drama about her biological father, Bill Hudson. He and Goldie split when Kate was 18 months old. I can only think that Goldie was pretty negative about him while Kate was growing up. Supposedly the dad wanted to be part of their lives and the kids said no?? Kind of strange to me...Can anyone shed any light on the issue? Was Mr. Hudson abusive to Goldie or something? I don't get it.
good for them ....such a nice mother daughter team
