It's safe to say Jennifer Westfeldt has babies on the brain.
After writing, directing and starring in Friends With Kids, the 42-year-old began pondering why she and longtime love Jon Hamm never started a family. "I've thought about this a lot lately. I never thought I’d be this age and not have kids," Westfeldt tells The New York Times. "But my life has also gone in a million ways I never anticipated."

"I kept feeling like I'd wake up with absolute clarity, and I haven't. And we have a pretty great life together. The chance that we'll regret it doesn't seem like a compelling enough reason to do it. I may wake up tomorrow with that lighting bolt, and I'll have to scramble to make it happen."

Westfeldt has been dating Hamm, 41, since 1997. She was inspired to write Friends With Kids after watching their friends slowly disappear into a world of dirty diapers, parent-teacher conferences and dance recitals.

"Best intentions aside," Westfeldt tells The New York Times, having kids "always changes your friendship, at least that first year or so, in a way that I think is painful for both of you."
Friends With Kids, which also stars Adam Scott, Megan Fox, Maya Rudolph, Chris O'Dowd and Kristen Wiig, is in theaters now.
