Kim Kardashian has newfound empathy for her older sister, Kourtney. In the new issue of Cosmopolitan magazine, first-time mom-to-be Kim, 32, admits that she was judgmental when Kourtney, 33, got pregnant in 2009 with her first child — Mason, now 2 — with no plans to wed the father, longtime love Scott Disick.
“I was like, ‘You’re not married! How could you do this?’ I was really firm and strict,” Kim tells the women’s magazine. “But she was like, ‘Marriage isn’t what I want.’ And later, I realized she had a better family life than I did.” (Kourtney and Disick, 29, are also parents to daughter Penelope, 7 months.)
The reality superstar posed for Cosmopolitan in the very early stages of her pregnancy, before her now-famous bump was showing — posing in a sexy halter mini-dress in an interior shot, and high-waisted bikini bottoms and a midriff-baring top on the cover.
And now that she and boyfriend Kanye West are prepping for first-time parenthood, they share a similar ambivalence about tying the knot. “[Marriage] is something I know that we both want in our future, but I don’t have this sense of urgency about it,” she explains of her yearlong romance with the rapper, 35. “I have this best friend who understands me and helps me through all my tough experiences, and vice versa, you know? It just feels like this is it for me.”
On the other side of the spectrum is younger sister Khloe, 28, who famously fast-tracked marriage with NBA star Lamar Odom in late 2009 — and they’re still going strong. “I saw fast marriages like Khloe and Lamar’s and that was what seemed to work,” says the twice-married Kim. “[Now] I say give it a good six months before you commit. Feelings change, even if it seems so lustful.”
But the timing is exactly right for motherhood, she says: “I’ve always said that I wanted kids, but I don’t think I ever would have been ready until now.”
