It all started when the New Orleans-based DJ posted a pic of her son’s Halloween costume on the social media site on Friday, with the caption, “Young cool J too cool for ghost and goblins.”

The Insta featured 11-year-old Julez — Knowles’ son with ex-husband Daniel Smith — dressed in a red Adidas track suit with gold headphones around his neck, giving the camera a stern look.

Commenter @alexandriaaaf later wrote, “So cute but at the same time he ugly.”

Knowles, 29, was not willing to let that one slide, and posted a lengthy yet calm response to the unkind words.

“@alexandriaaaf Jussst as I thought it was safe to share pictures again, a young’n like you decides to use her time to spread ugliness,” she began. “I don’t fault you, I can only imagine why you would feel the need to say such things, but thanks again for being a reminder that out of all the love and wonderful energy shared, that when I open up a space for an innocent beautiful being like my boy to be criticized and judged, that I WILL most likely respond, and that he receives enough love and celebration  at home that it’s just not worth it to go down this road.”

She ended her message with an educational lesson from the incident, writing, “I hope that this really resonates with you and you make better decisions in the future towards how you use your words towards innocent children. And @ro.rxd get ya friend because this could have truly gone south if I was in the wrong mood.”

Many commenters replied, offering Knowles their support for her mature response. And @tanwhite12 wrote, “All the beautiful things said can't be unwritten . Another persons limited beliefs and ugly spirit can't block beauty, truth, or light . We can choose to focus and reply to the good, or focus and reply on what we don't want. All the beauty here , but the ugly grabs are attention and focus.”

Beyonce’s younger sister was moved by those words and replied again, writing, “@tanwhite12 I actually respond to folks allll the time. Whether it be good or bad, but this is beautifully written though. but your right. that's not really worth people sharing….”

The incident hasn’t deterred her from posting Instagrams with her only child in the days since. On Monday, Nov. 2, she shared a cute video of Julez and his friend Rasheed dancing in their Louisiana home.

“I never want to leave home. Shout out to the Pelicans. Shout out to Senegal. Shout out to Julez's homeboy Rasheed,” she captioned the cute clip. “Shout out to our 5 dollar lamp my husband gonna be mad I let yall see (but he will deal until we're done moving/renovating) . Shout out to my flight possibly being delayed/canceled so I can't leave anyway.”
