New details have been revealed in the tragic death of Cathriona White, the girlfriend of actor Jim Carrey. White, who was 30 at the time of her death, was found in her Sherman Oaks, Calif., home on Monday, Sept. 28. Her cause of death is believed to be a suicide.
Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter told Us Weekly that there were pills next to White’s body at the time of her death. A suicide note was also discovered at the scene that mentions Carrey, though Winter could not reveal whether it was addressed to the actor because he hasn’t seen it. Winter also refused to release information on the type of pills found.
An autopsy has not been conducted yet, and toxicology tests take up to 10 weeks to determine the official cause of death.
Shortly after news of her passing broke on Tuesday, Carrey released a statement to Us Weekly, saying, “I am shocked and deeply saddened by the passing of my sweet Cathriona. She was a truly kind and delicate Irish flower, too sensitive for this soil, to whom loving and being loved was all that sparkled.”
White’s family also spoke out following her death, telling the Irish Independent, “Cathriona was a shining light in our lives who was loved deeply by her entire family. We will miss her terribly and at this difficult time we ask to be left in private to mourn our loss. There will be no further statements on behalf of the family.”
Carrey and White had been dating on and off since 2012. The pair had most recently split on Sept. 24. White last tweeted on the alleged day of their split, writing, “Signing off Twitter, I hope I have been a light to my nearest and dearest. [Love] to you all.”
