Celine Dion’s husband, René Angelil, will forever be remembered. The singer-turned-manager lost his battle against throat cancer on Thursday, January 14. He was remembered by his musical peers, including Reba McEntire, Josh Groban and Michelle Williams, who extended their prayers to Dion via social media.

“Rene spoke softly but carried monumental respect. Some of my first moments in this biz are because of him,” Groban tweeted following the sad news. “Love to Celine & their children.”

“My heart, thoughts and prayers go out to Celine and her family on the passing of René. He fought a long hard battle,” McEntire shared on Twitter and Instagram, referring to Angelil’s terminal cancer. He was diagnosed in April 1998.

Songwriter Diane Warren, who collaborated with Dion on Grammy-winning hit “Because You Loved Me,” also paid tribute to Angelil, who discovered Dion when she was just 12 years old. “Rene Angelil Rest in peace. Thank U for Celine + for giving her my songs Thank U for everything + I'm hoping there r casinos in Heaven RIP Rene,” she tweeted.

"René Angélil, 73, passed away this morning at his home in Las Vegas after a long and courageous battle against cancer," a statement from her rep to Us read. "The family requests that their privacy be respected at the moment; more details will be provided at a later time."

Dion, who married Angelil in 1994, has since canceled two of her Las Vegas shows. Dion and her husband are parents to son Rene-Charles, 14, and twin boys Nelson and Eddy, 5.
