The 55-year-old actress, who is best known for her roles as Eve Donovan on Days of Our Lives and Blair Cramer on One Life to Live, opened up about her cancer battle to fans, explaining that she’s been in treatment for most of the summer. “I know that I have been quiet lately, and I want to let you know what’s been going on in my life. I was asked back to play Eve on Days and had begun my exciting return,” she wrote. “During the three-week July hiatus I was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia and have spent six of the last nine weeks in the hospital. I will continue treatment over the next three months.”

She explained that the prognosis is good. “I will not likely need a stem cell/bone marrow transplant, and we expect a complete cure,” she continued. “I consider this just a bump in the road. I have amazing prayer warriors, family, and friends that have been extremely supportive and life-affirming throughout this.”

DePaiva said she’s relying on her faith to get her through the tough time. “I have a strong faith that strengthens me every step of the way,” she wrote. “This has been a private matter, but with Eve’s return coming soon I felt it was time to let my loving fans know what’s been going on. The Days and OLTL family love runs deep. Although I’m unable to be ‘camera ready’ now … my goal is to get back to stirring up trouble in Salem soon. Keep me in your thoughts and prayers. … God’s got this!”

The actress encouraged fans to contribute to the Weill Cornell Leukemia Program or donate bone marrow, blood or platelets if they’d like to help fight the disease.

DePaiva became a regular on Days of Our Lives playing Eve in 2014, but she announced on her site in September 2015 that she was let go from the soap opera. Her last appearance aired in February 2016, but she was scheduled to make a return this summer.

She is married to her former OLTL costar James DePaiva. They share a 19-year-old son, JQ.
