Dean Sheremet remembers the exact moment his world changed forever back in 2009. Speaking candidly in an interview with Access Hollywood on Thursday, Oct. 10, the 32-year-old ex-dancer recalled getting a phone call from his then-wife, LeAnn Rimes, in which she confessed she had been having an affair with her Northern Lights costar Eddie Cibrian.
"I had a call...from LeAnn," Sheremet said of how he found out about her infidelity. "She said, 'Well, Us Weekly may or may not have a picture of me and Eddie kissing.' I'm like, 'Whoa! What do you mean may or may not have a picture? What does that mean?' So then...it unfolded from there."
(Rimes, 31, and Cibrian, 40, hooked up after meeting on the set of their 2009 Lifetime movie. Both were married at the time but later split from their respective spouses to be together; they celebrated their second wedding anniversary in April.)
"The affair was, I mean, of all the things that I could have ever imagined would have happened, I never would have thought," Rimes' ex-husband admitted. "I guess you have that assumption that the person that you're with would never do something like that. How close we were, I just never saw it coming. If anyone would have seen it, I thought that I would have."
Their breakup wasn't all bad, though. The dancer turned chef/food blogger -- who got remarried to photographer Sarah Silver in August 2011 -- said he took a lot away from his split with the singer.
"I don't know [if I] dodged a bullet...every relationship you learn from," he told Access Hollywood. "I think that was my learning experience of what I needed to do to pick myself up and kind of do what I needed to do."
He continued: "It's hard to delineate where I stopped and LeAnn began. We were so intertwined. I was husband, I was father, I was manager. There were so many different roles, and it was hard to juggle all of those things when you just want to be in love with someone."
Now that he has some distance from the relationship, Sheremet wishes his ex-wife well. But he won't be reaching out to her anytime soon.
"We don't really talk," he said. "I have no animosity toward her. I have nothing but love for her, and I really wish her the best. But we don't really talk that much. There's not really a need to. I don't really know what we would talk about."
