"The separation was entirely mutual," a rep for the former couple tells Us Weekly. (The Smash actress, 43, and the actor/TV producer, 44, announced Tuesday they'd separated after 10 years of marriage.) "They have been a couple for twenty years, and the nature of their relationship simply changed over time."

A representative for Messing and Zelman tells Us, "in the short term they plan on continuing to live together with their son, then gradually transition into a new living situation. They have no immediate plans for divorce."

If it works good for them in trying to make it easier for their child. Also, this would be a very difficult time of the year for their son without both parents providing some sense of normal in the home. The holidays are an important time for family and this being Chanukah I'm sure also played into their decision. It is a very unselfish loving decision the have made and I wish them all the best. normal

Very sad but also incredibly unselfish. So few parents put their childs interest above their own. Little Roman is a fortunate child.

@Fortune McLemore, did they fix the missing "A" after you mentioned it or do you need to get a new set of reading glasses?

I guess they realized they became more friends than lovers and that's why they don't feel the urgent need to divorce and go their separate ways. If that's still a good environment for their child, that's great. Whatever works from them :)

"They have been couple for twenty years"? It's "They have been A couple for twenty years." Where do you get your proofreaders, at Wal-Mart?
