The mom of two revealed she was finding it very tough to come to terms with what she considers to be a huge “failure” in her life, although she admitted she’s been humbled by the support she’s received from friends and fans.

“When you break up with somebody, you’re like, ‘Yeah, that didn’t work,’ [but] when you get divorced, you’re like, ‘I’m the biggest failure. This is the biggest failure,'” Barrymore told Handler (via Entertainment Tonight) “It’s so shameful and hard to actually go through that, even privately.

“It’s a tough time. It’s a hard thing to go through. It’s like you’re being put on a cheese grater and every second going, ‘Ah! This wasn’t the plan!'” the 41-year-old star went on.

But while Barrymore is suffering, she also revealed she’s been lucky enough to receive a load of support from those around her.

“There has been this really nice feeling of something very fluid and positive and the opposite of how I felt inside,” the actress said. “Everyone has just been so cool and chill and nice about everything that it quelled my own fears and demons about how we sort of have to go through things in life.”

And one thing she was very sure of is that she won’t be returning to the dating world anytime soon (particularly a dating world full of hookup apps). “What I do want is girlfriend time,” she revealed.

Sources close to Barrymore confirmed to Us Weekly that she felt like a “failure” earlier this month and said both she and Kopelman were very sad that their nearly four-year marriage was ending in divorce.

“She’s disappointed this didn’t work,” a source close to the parents of daughters Olive, 3, and Frankie, 2, told Us. “They both expected to be together forever.”
