Andrew Garfield ended his three-year relationship with Shannon Woodward (Katy Perry‘s BFF) right in the middle of his career as the new Spider-Man. But little did he know that his action flick role would provide more for him than a career boost — it would give him a new girlfriend too!
In June 2011, a month after splitting with his Raising Hope actress girlfriend, a source confirmed to Us Weekly that Garfield, 28, was dating his on-screen Amazing Spider-Man love, Emma Stone, 23. A year later, the British actor finally opened up about how it was love at first screen test.

“We got on really well as people, in between [takes],” the actor shared with MTV News recently. “That was the fun stuff: In between, we’d just mess around and I felt, ‘Ah, this is different.’ I wasn’t really aware of what was happening in the screen test. She keeps you on your toes and that wakes you up. That was the beginning.”
But for months prior, the pair played things casual at red carpet events and instead packed on the PDA while strolling through NYC and L.A. Garfield was noticeably absent while Stone embarked on her press junkets for Crazy, Stupid, Love and The Help last summer.
However, in September 2011, there was no mistaking that things were serious between the lovebirds.
“Andrew is one of the most giving actors I’ve ever worked with,” Stone raved of her beau in an interview with Teen Vogue. “If I needed to get to a place of love or sadness in a scene, he’d leave messages on my phone to replay, or slip in lines off camera for a different reaction than what was scripted. He gave me so much to react to.”
