Jaime King on Pregnancy Curves: “I Know What It Feels Like to Be Body-Shamed”

Jaime King opened up to the August issue of American Baby, explaining that she knows what it's like to be body-shamed.

Jaime King may know how to make pregnancy look good, but the Hart of Dixie actress revealed in a recent interview that having her baby bump in the spotlight isn’t always all it’s cracked up to be.

“I know what it feels like to be body-shamed,” the stunning actress told American Baby magazine’s August issue. “People have made comments about how I’m too thin and need to eat a sandwich. I’ve seen it happen with other pregnant women in this business too — we’re either too thin or put on too much weight.”

“But every woman’s body is different,” she continued. “All that matters is that you’re taking care of the nutrition for yourself and your child.”

King, 36, announced her second pregnancy with husband Kyle Newman via Instagram this past February, calling baby No. 2 “the sequel.” She and Newman are already parents to 21-month-old son James Knight.

“Pregnancy is the ultimate symbol of womanhood, beauty and sensuality, so make it a celebration of creating life,” King said in the interview. “You don’t have to hide anything or try to suck in your belly. Why not put on things that are tighter, flashier, or more fun?”

In March, the former model also opened up to Elle.com about ignoring public commentary about her changing figure.

“My whole life has been about presenting an image of perfection because that’s what sells in our industry,” she said at the time. “But as I become more and more of a woman and [think about] what I really put out there in the world, I don’t want to put out perfection anymore because that’s not attainable. That’s not the truth.”

Earlier this year, King announced that she had named gal pal Taylor Swift as her second child’s godmother. Jessica Alba is the godmother to James.

“We were hanging out on the couch and I was like, ‘Hey, would ever want to be a godmother?’ And she was like, ‘Uh, yes!’ And she cried and, you know, all the fun things that best friends do,” King told Elle.com of the big moment.
