Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux have a "new member" in their family.

"We have a little puppy, Sophie, a rescue," Aniston, 43, said on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno Friday. "A little pit boxer."

Aniston and Theroux, 40, decided to adopt after Aniston's "extreme animal activist" pal called her up and said 10 puppies were "left in a box in front of a shelter."

"Sophie came up to us, and that was sort of a big indicator of they choose you," the Wanderlust actress said. "We were there for three hours, and I'm telling you, I was almost walking out with three puppies. It's so hard. That's why we named her Sophie, because it was Sophie's Choice. I was crying -- it was so hard."

Aniston added that she and Theroux are currently crate training Sophie, "but she doesn't love" being "trapped in a cage."

"I have a white German Shepherd, Dolly, and she loves her crate. We were a little nervous about them getting along," Aniston admitted. "Dolly doesn't have a create anymore but she loved it. Somehow she walked her way into Sophie's crate, which is tiny. . . It was good because Sophie was like, 'I love going wherever you go.' They slept there together the whole night."

@phyllis jennifer aniston already said that he had been broken up with his girlfriend for 4 months. thats why she didnt want to date him in the first place because she knew that he was with someone, and they later broke up, thats when she started dating him. she said she didnt want to be with him because he had gotten out of a long relationship a few months before (she didnt want to ruin the chance of them getting back together) and he assured her that it was over between him and his ex.and jennifer aniston didnt write the movie wanderlust. she cant choose what not to say in the movie. and the whole baby thing could also be a jab at madonna who has adopted not one but two black babies.

Crate training is an excellent way to train a puppy to be independent and helps the puppy potty train (they won't want to go potty where they sleep). It is NOT abusive as long as the dog is not in the crate for long periods. You aren't being a "mean" dog owner when crate training, you are being a responsible one. It also helps establish your position as the alpha member. The worst thing you can do as a dog owner is let your dog feel like it needs to be your alpha. Once you crate train them, all you have to do is command "crate!" or "kennel!" and they run right in, because they actually like their crate or kennel. I have had many dogs throughout the years, and currently have four and the only one that doesn't run right in the kennel is my viszla, who I rescued from a desolate road. He was never crate trained and it shows, and vizslas are very stubborn, very separation anxiety-ridden dogs, so I can see how his previous owners gave up if they ever tried, especially since they dumped him, or didn't try too hard to find him when he ran off. Anyway, if you want a balanced dog, you NEED to crate train, so Jen is right.

Is this correct? "I adopted a black baby. It is the new SUV." Really? A line in this movie Wanderlust...racism at its best...and could not even say "a ethnic baby"...another jab at Angelina Jolie...for the SECOND time? And how is it justified when she fell for someone on a movie set but wrong when Brad did? Yes, they were married but I am kinda older and for years buying celebrity magazines and there had been trouble for sometime in their relationship so he did not leave a perfectly happy relationship. And how long were they married? Seven years? How long was this Justin Theroux with his ex? Do I see a sort of parallel here? Wrong is wrong...perhaps Brad Pitt was in the wrong but if that is the case, so is Jennifer Aniston...and much as I love dogs, what about people? Children? Babies? Respect? Not so much...In this society, we can have lots of animals of different colors, breeds but children? Censored a scene AT HER REQUEST regarding nudity but not this offensive, racist line. It is NOT funny or cute AT ALL. And she wonders why her life is not working out...

    RESCUE PEOPLE!!!

  • February 26, 2012 - 10:48am Phyllis Levy

I agree with Diana. Were people saying the same things about Brad and Angelina? Now perhaps this will give Jennifer Aniston more insight into what happened to herself. And don't get me wrong...I LOVE dogs...they are a bundle of love and loyalty but what about children? Aren't there alot of children that need adopting? But just about everytime I do read these pages, there is a dig at white people adopting a black shild. I read in a review that there is a line in this Wanderlust movie that said "I adopt a black baby. It's the new SUV..." EXCUSE ME! First of all, WHY?!? Racism? And was this a dig at Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie? The SECOND time a dig at Zahara to get to them? Why was this offensive line allowed? Did not Jennifer Aniston had them censor a scene regarding some type of nudity? This scene or even line could not be censored? And Justin Theroux? He did a fantastic job with Tropic Thunder and Robert Downey Jr. which allowed him(Robert)to play an African-American man with dignity and respect. He(Robert's performance)is one of the best part of this movie. He nailed it. It was not offensive at all. I admit that I have not seen the whole of this movie, Wanderlust, and now, no. I have a fondness for Jennifer Aniston but she seems a little lost and confused in her choices or choices she allows others to make for her which makes her look not real good and disappointing. I also don't know what happened with this Brangelina thing but I do see what is happening with their beautiful family. Hum...it is ok to have alot of dogs or even animals but not actual people(children)or it is mocked...hum...

I do like Jen much better now since she is a dog lover. But keep Sophie out of a crate, thats mean!

I love Jennifer Aniston so much now after knowing she did this. Dogs are love...they truly know unconditional love better than some people. My dogs loved me in a time when even my life was at odds. Please adopt from shelters and rescues, and spay/nueter your pets. It's the humane and kind thing to do, and your adopted dog will love you so much more for it because they truly 'get' that you gave them a second shot at life.

Crating a dog is not a bad thing, as long as it's not done for long periods of time. Dogs naturally are considered "den" creatures and like the comfort of a "den" type setting. Make sure the have enough room to turn around comfortably and give them a blankie and a good chew toy and they are in heaven. I have three dogs and they love the crate and lay in it even when the door is open and they can come and go freely. It's all in how the crate is used, dont use it as a punishment use it as a place for them to relax and feel comfortable.

I have a rescue named Sophie, too. She chose me as well. Love the name Sophie - it means "wisdom." And she's as smart as a whip! Congrats, Jen :) As to the crate training - it's a challenge in the beginning, but eventually that 'crate' becomes their safe haven and they crave it. Just a special place of their very own to go. We don't even close the doors on the crates for our two dogs. They sleep their all night just like we do in our bed. But what's right for one pet owner isn't right for everyone. To each their own. But good on Jen and Justin for rescuing Sophie - she'll probably rescue them right back.

I'm crate training my Jack Russell pup. I didn't want to but my vet talked me into it. I also went on-line to a Jack Russell club website and they basically said you're a fool if you don't crate train them. It's been the best thing. He has a place that's "just his" which he likes. He's only in the crate when I'm not there. During the work week I come home at lunch and let him out to play, so the most he's ever in there is 5 hours or so. I tried not putting him in his crate when I went out to dinner a few weeks ago and ended up being gone longer than I thought and when I got home he had torn apart one of those carpeted cat tower things. Right down to the wood. Thank God he didn't choose my new couch!! At any rate, it helps them potty train, gives them a sense of security, and makes your life much easier which makes you a more loving and patient pet owner.

No one knows how she and Justin got together. He could have very well been broken up with his ex and just living together until they sorted their affairs. It's very easy for an ex to try and make him look like the villain because he moved on quickly with someone famous. We simply don't know.

Dogs do need to be trained to be in a kennel. Dogs go in kennel when they get groomed and if you travel with your dog they have to go in a kennel and if your dog has never been trained to be in a kennel they will bark and bark and try to chew there way out and dig there way out. they can really hurt them selfs if they have never been put inn one. Jennifer anistin is a great actress and it is her choice to do what ever she wants. She is the best.

I have 5 dogs at this time, so with all her money why not take home a couple at least...geesshhh. I tried to put pekingnese in a crate the first night but she wasn't having any part of it and I couldn't stand seeing her upset, so up in the bed she went. She was a angel from day one. Slept so nice with me behind my pillow, she was so tiny at the time. A complete angel ever since.

Mandy, dogs love crates, being crate trained is the way an professional recommends expecially for a active puppy like a pit/boxer mix, it is safer for them when they are alone, it is there space, my two pit bulls were crate trained, they no longer need their crates but they are still there with the door always open, they often go to their crate and lay down when they want to be left alone. Dogs love their dens.

I like her so much and can't understand how she makes such poor choices. After everyone point fingers at Bradgelina, she turns around and does the same thing with Justin. Her new movie got the lowest rating ever. She needs to stick to TV sitcoms. Sorry to say, she will never run with the big dogs. I really, really hate to say this, but I'm starting to believe that is why Brad left her. He continued to grow in one direction, where she didn't. He wanted kids, she didn't, etc. I just wish whatever choices she makes, she is happy. Everyone deserves that. I just wish her the best.

I hate when people put dogs in crates! Dogs don't belong in a cage!
