Long live Gigli. It’s been more than 10 years since Jennifer Lopez‘s flop of a film was released, but people are still bringing up the disastrous 2003 rom-com, in which she starred alongside then-fiancee Ben Affleck. Take, for example, Lopez’s interview with Seth Meyers on Wednesday, Jan. 21.
“Do you have favorites?” Meyers asked the multi-hyphenate about her movie selections. “And ones you look back on and ask, ‘Oh, why did I do that?'”
Lopez, 45, nodded and responded: “Of course. I mean, I’ve done a lot of movies at this point. There are some that I’m like, ‘Wow, it was amazing to be a part of that.'” On the flip side, the Boy Next Door star joked: “And [there are] some that you mention the name, and I’m like, ‘Huh? What? Which movie? I’m sorry, I don’t remember that.’ That just tells you, you’ve been in it for a long time.”
Indeed, Lopez has 35-plus acting credits to her name, including her career-defining role as late singer Selena Quintanilla in the 1997 biopic Selena. One year later, she also showed off her acting chops in another smash hit, Out of Sight, co-starring George Clooney. In 2002, Lopez starred as a wife who retaliates against her abusive husband in the thriller Enough.
While she’s tackled a variety of movie genres, the actress has certainly made her mark starring in romantic comedies like The Wedding Planner (2001), Maid in Manhattan (2002), Monster-in-Law (2005), and What to Expect When You’re Expecting (2012). None, however, was more disastrous than Gigli.
“You were in Anaconda,” Meyers noted to his guest Wednesday, to which she responded: “I was?!”
Laughing, Lopez continued: “I was also in Gigli. I was also in…what else? What else sucked?”
Meyers brought up a story about when Affleck was on SNL many years ago, and the actor got “so mad” that Gigli was receiving so much flack.
“We got a lot of crap at that time,” Lopez mused. “And it was because we were together… there was a whole other thing that was happening. There are worse movies than Gigli out there!”
On the show Wednesday, Lopez also discussed her 6-year-old twins Max and Emme, and why she decided to hire a manny. Watch her appearance above!
