John Mayer is slow dancing in a burning room. The singer has surfaced for the first time since he and girlfriend Katy Perry broke up, as he was photographed in NYC on Thursday, Feb. 27.
Mayer, 36, dressed casual for the outing, wearing jeans, boots, and a navy and red knitted zip-up jacket. He also donned glasses and rocked a blue backpack.
As previously reported, Mayer and Perry, 29, announced their split on Feb. 26 after nearly two years of dating. The breakup was "mutual" and "extremely amicable," an insider told Us. Added another source: They "made the mature decision that it was the right time."
The on-again, off-again twosome may have ended their relationship on good terms, but an insider told Us they've been arguing for some time. "She's stressed about the tour, they've been fighting. It is probably for the best, because she is going to be on tour for forever. Of course this happens all the time, I can't keep track anymore. But for now they are done."
Another added: "Not sure how long it will last this time but yes, it is off for now."
With Mayer away in NYC, Perry, meanwhile, has quickly dropped the title of girlfriend in lieu of another — aunt. "Finally you can add 'helps delivers babies in living rooms' to my resume," the "Wide Awake" singer tweeted on Feb. 26. "It's been a miracle of a day…Auntie Katy aka Stylist Auntie."
