Captain Jack Sparrow made some adorable new mateys this week. Johnny Depp surprised patients at Lady Cilento Children's Hospital in Australia on Tuesday, July 7, stopping by in his full pirate costume.
The Oscar-nominated actor, 52, slipped back into his Pirates of the Caribbean getup for the visit, and was joined by costar Stephen Graham, who played pirate Scrum. The friendly swashbucklers spent time with those staying in the Queensland hospital, mingling with patients and their families, as well as hospital staff.
The Children's Hospital Foundation shared photos from the sweet stay on Facebook, writing, "Two very famous pirates made a special surprise visit to the Lady Cilento Children's Hospital last night."
"Dressed in full costume, both Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow and Stephen Graham as Scrum spent over three hours making a real difference to sick kids and their families in hospital!" the caption continues. "Both actors flew in for the visit from the Gold Coast, landing in a helicopter on the hospital's rooftop as they took time out from filming the next installment of Pirates of the Caribbean, Dead Men Tell No Tales."
Sporting his trademark Sparrow dreadlocks, eyeliner, and layered garb, Depp posed for photos with kids, shook hands with youngsters, and took time for an interview with the local television station.
The Edward Scissorhands star first became the lovably goofy pirate for 2003's Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. He has returned to the role four times in the years since, currently playing Jack Sparrow again for the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. Due out in 2017, the fifth flick in the Disney series will also feature a return by Orlando Bloom as Will Turner.
