Who stole the show during the touching tribute to late director John Hughes at Sunday's Academy Awards? Judd Nelson, 50.
Fans of Hughes' 80s teen comedy classics like The Breakfast Club and Ferris Buellers' Day Off were thrilled to see Molly Ringwald, Matthew Broderick, Anthony Michael Hall and Jon Cryer reunite to remember Hughes. But Nelson's shocking appearance inspired hundreds to instantly Tweet their surprise.
Oscars 2010: see what the stars wore on the red carpet!
Entertainment Weekly editor Dave Karger wrote, "The entire crowd at the Elton John party just gasped at the sight of Judd Nelson."
Joked a Twitterer named "sportsguy33" : "Hi, this is Judd Nelson, I need a cab -- I'm at the Kodak Theater, heading back to the Homeless Shelter."
Check out the worst-dressed ever stars at the Oscars
Added another: "I wondered what Molly Ringwald was so surprised about, and then I saw Judd Nelson."
My very first Oscasr: see stars (like Angelina Jolie) as kids attend the Academy Awards
Sniped "SSJ_WHB," Judd Nelson just killed a guy backstage."
But the actor -- who played "The Rebel" John Bender in 1985's Breakfast Club and kissed Ringwald at its conclusion -- has kept busy as an actor.
His IMDB.com profile notes he is featured in six films or TV films in 2010 alone.

82I was away from my tv when the names were called out for the John Hughes tribute. I recognized most of the actors/actresses when I sat back down. I had to ask someone at work who the dark haired man with the glasses was. Judd Nelson looked very good and hasnt aged as much as some of the others have. Best of luck to you now and always Judd. You looked darn good.
Judd always looks great, he is one hot guy. I don't know what all the fuss is about, I like that he dresses with his own style and does not follow the crowd that is what always made him stand out in the first place!!
Love you John Bender!!!
I was glad to read other people agree with me -- I think Judd looked great. Gorgeous, actually. He's been my favorite actor for 20 years and I almost jumped off my couch in excitement when I heard his name called on the Oscars. Part of what I love about him is that he is different. The look he had 5 years ago with the wild hair -- when he was supposed to appear at the MTV Movie Awards w/the rest of the Breakfast Club cast. He's always done his own thing. He keeps a low profile and works steadily. I love his voice. I don't know why people say "what is up with his voice?" He has always sounded like that. The facial hair?! I love it! A lot of people hated what he was wearing. Who cares!? John Travolta showed up in jeans (and I loved that, too). People are a bit too critical. For 50 years old, Judd is still beautiful.
he looked ill. and could barely talk.
I actually gasped when I saw him. He looked ill. It didn't have anything to do with age. I thought he looked sweaty and nervous and actually very thin -- possibly due to the too big tux. Nevertheless, he looked sick to me. Rather than be cruel and say hurtful things about someone we don't even know -- I'm just hoping he is healthy and happy.
Geez, he doesn't look that bad! I always thought he was HOT!
I'm not shocked that he's aged, and I think he'd look great if he had dressed appropriately for the Oscars. But he didn't. He looked like a disheveled professor from Hogwarts. Nor did he seem like he wanted to be there. If he agreed to be part of the tribute, he should have stepped up and put a little more effort into it. And I used to be quite the Judd Nelson fan.
I have been an Agent for over 20 yrs & I for one would must say, 'Thanks for the media coverage'. Although some of you show way too much jealousy & some of you people PLEASE GET A LIFE. WOW what publicity from the lowly people
Judd Nelson looked homeless? Has anyone looked at Brad Pitt lately? mymovees
he's gotten older.. so what?? brad pitt is the one who looks like a homeless old fart.
Some of these comments are just hilarious! What do some of you people think, that people from Hollywood don't age? The movie was 25 yrs ago, look at your pics from 1985, bet you aged also!! I dont see what the fuss is about, so he has a goatee beard, doesn't make him homeless looking!!!!
I think everyone needs to calm down, people get older and they start to look different. No one is young forever so of course Judd Nelson isnt going to look like he did all those years ago. Give the guy a break, he is fifty and looks great! and i also agree with the comments about brad pitt, he looks more homeless then Judd with his hobo goatee. Judd Nelson kicks ass!!!
No shock to me on how bad Judd Nelson looks - it's just his inner scumbag personality leaking out. I had the misfortune of being introduced to him and the girl he was dating at a club in NYC many years ago. He was the most arrogant, conceited, self-absorbed, rude, nasty prick I've ever met. He seemed to be completely oblivious to the fact that he's an actor with average skills and average looks that got really lucky with 1 good role in a John Hughes movie that paved the way for the rest of his unremarkable yet decently lucrative career. Instead of being thankful and appreciative and a little humble, he thinks he's God and that his poop doesn't stink. Yet it's funny how he broke down, sobbing in hysteria like a little girl, nearly having a mental breakdown when the producers of Suddenly Susan threatened to cut him from the show. He's an insecure, weak, pathetic piece of crap, and time has finally made his physical appearance reflect who he truly is on the inside. Nice to see how one way or another, the truth comes out.
I don't see why people were so shocked or thought that Judd Nelson looked terrible...I think he looks great! Better than the picture from ages ago...
comparing the picture to the article i dont see what the author is fussing about. How rude and insensitive. His attire and grooming are fine. He's fifty, and looks like a healthy fifty. Hateful people. I am utterly baffled that people say nothing about Brad Pitts appearance, yet think Judd Nelsons appearance is something to talk about . very odd. and rude.
I think we should we all just take a step back and leave Judd alone, let him be. At leat he was there to honer his his friend and the director that gave him, and so many others a career in the Wood, out of respect, he was there... I think being Krule is just something Hollywood does for a past time...Or fust the reporters, So What?
I agree with CW... Brad Pitt looks more like a homeless person...
Honestly, Don't you have anything worth writing about or anything nice to say. He looks far from homeless and alot of people like his look. So what if he wasn't wearing a plain ol' black tux. He is his own person.
I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw Judd. It didn't look like him at all. I know it has been years, but Judd was hot and he just didn't look like himself. Come on Judd, get it together and shave or something.
