After whisking his girlfriend away to Italy for a romantic, celebratory getaway this past weekend, Kanye West had one final surprise up his sleeve for birthday girl Kim Kardashian, who turned 32 on Sunday, Oct. 21.
During dessert at the Angel Ball in NYC Monday night, "Kanye surprised Kim with a birthday cake covered in chocolate," a witness tells Us Weekly. "She looked genuinely surprised and thanked Kanye with a kiss!"
Throughout the night, West, 35, and Kardashian stayed close, mingling with fellow partygoers like Nelly, Ashanti, Smokey Robinson and Tina and Solange Knowles. "When they were sitting at their table, they were constantly whispering in each other's ears, sneaking kisses," the witness says. "They were never more than inches apart."
During Robinson's performance of his 1964 hit, "My Girl," "the couple got really into it," the eyewitness shares. "Kanye even sang the line 'My girl' to Kim and she started to blush! It was really sweet."
Their PDA-packed, Big Apple evening comes on the heels of the couple of six months' whirlwind tour of Italy, which included stops in Rome, Florence and Venice.
During his radio show Oct. 19, Ryan Seacrest — who is an executive producer for both Keeping Up With the Kardashians and Kourtney and Kim Take New York — hinted that West may have been planning to pop the question during the couple's trip. On Monday, however, there was still no word of an engagement.
Ring or no ring, the happy-in-love Kardashian certainly has plenty to smile about these days. On Sunday afternoon, the brunette beauty blogged her thanks to fans who had taken the time to wish her well on her big day.
"I just want to say thank you so much for all the sweet birthday messages you guys have been leaving," the reality star wrote. "I am so blessed to have friends, family and fans who support me every day. I'm feeling very loved. Thank you all!! Xo"
