Breaking News: Kate Winslet Splits From Director Sam Mendes

Kate Winslet has split from her husband, film director Sam Mendes.
In a statement, London-based Schillings law firm tells UsMagazine.com: "Kate and Sam are saddened to announce that they separated earlier this year. The split is entirely amicable and is by mutual agreement. Both parties are fully committed to the future joint parenting of their children. They ask that the media respect the privacy of the family."

Winslet wed Mendes in 2003. They have a son Joe, 6.

Last year, in the June U.K. edition of Marie Claire, Winslet praised Mendes, her Revolutionary Road director.
"We're just there for each other," she said.

When it comes to running the household, she added: "I really rule the roost, I absolutely steer the ship. Constantly making checklists; you know, library books have to go in on Friday, make sure that one day a week they're [the children] not having bread for lunch."
Winslet was previously wed to Jim Threapleton, with whom she has a daughter, Mia, 9.

The SEVEN year itch strikes again!!! I wish more people would talk about how relationships change dramatically after 7 years - happens ALL the time. Some can work through that and make it, while others just can't.

This goes to show that having money, fame, marriage and kids doesnt make you happy. People are always going to want more and more and more, instead of being greatful. Whenever I hear famous couples talk about how "strong" their marriage is and how they are "always there for each other" I always think to myself "yeah right, nothing's that perfect."
Celebrities make marriage such a horrible thing, and we all know the influence Hollywood has on America. Its like a bad plague. If your husband is not beating you or cheating on you, for the sake of your kids, make your marriage work. How selfish are these people? Once you have a child, your life NO longer matters and you should do whatever it takes for your kid. Shame on you Kate and Sam. And whats with people all of a sudden bringing Leo into this? Its no secret that Leo has obsession with supermodels, while Kate is beautiful, definitely NOT Leo's type.
What is the problem? At least was MARRIED to him for SEVEN years. That is more than most movie stars stay married. I have always thought she and Leo should be together b/c they have chemistry that all can see. But she just didn't marry this producer and divorce him when she won, again she has been married for seven years. Y'all sound like she married him last year, had a kid, won an award and divorced him. DO THE MATH!!! seven years.,,.
this is tragic. they are both so mature and intelligent--i can't imagine them fighting and crying and breaking up their family! i imagine its hard to cope with the extremes of their schedules and the demands of work. sad.
Makes me wonder if the high divorce rate comes solely from Hollywood... or at least the disposition that it's right..
