Lady Gaga gave a big gift to New York!

"A letter and a gift to New York and the American Red Cross," Gaga tweeted Wednesday with a link to her Little Monsters website.

"Today I pledge 1 million dollars to New York & The American Red Cross for Hurricane Sandy Relief," she wrote in the heartfelt letter. "If it wasn't for NYC: the Lower Eastside, Harlem, the Bronx and Brooklyn, I would not be the woman or artist that I am today."

"New York is relentless ambition, a drive to succeed, a place where there is a natural pursuit of diversity through compassion," Gaga added. "Please accept this gift on behalf of myself, my parents Joe and Cynthia, and my sister Natali; with our deepest gratitude New York for raising us. Thank you for helping me build my spirit. I will now help you rebuild yours. Sincerely, Lady Gaga and The Germanottas."

Gaga (real name: Stefani Germanotta) grew up in Manhattan's Upper West Side. In an interview with radio host Elvis Duran in September, she blamed her recent weight gain on dad Joe Germanotta's restaurant.

"I love eating pasta and pizza," Gaga said. "I'm a New York Italian girl. That's why I have been staying out of New York. My father opened a restaurant. It's so amazing . . . it's so freaking delicious, but I'm telling you I gain five pounds every time I go in there."
