At least he won't have car troubles for the next year? Lamar Odom officially had his driver's license suspended after refusing to take a drug test following his DUI arrest in the early hours of Friday, Aug. 30.
According to Public Information Officer Leland Tang, the basketball player was asked to take a chemical test after he failed to perform the standard field sobriety test early Friday morning — and, based on his refusal, he will lose his license for one full year.
"We gave him plenty of opportunities to recant and submit [to the test] but he refused," Tang tells Us Weekly of Odom's vehicular troubles. Based on California law, Odom will be allowed to reapply for a license after one full year by taking a written test.
Odom, 33, was pulled over on the 101 Freeway in the San Fernando Valley around 4 a.m. PST on Friday after officers spotted his white Mercedes SUV weaving slowly on the road, well below the speed limit. The athlete showed "objective signs of intoxication and was unable to perform field sobriety tests as explained and demonstrated," the California Highway Patrol report stated.
Earlier this week, Odom made headlines after it was revealed that he has a serious case of substance abuse that may be tearing apart his four-year marriage to reality star Khloe Kardashian, 29.
"The addiction had taken over their marriage," a source previously told Us. "The problem is cocaine. He would be high for three or four days at a time."
Another source told Us that Kardashian has been fighting to keep the couple's marriage together, but his issues are starting to wear on her.
"Khloe has seemed very unhappy lately. She's not herself," the source said. "It's heartbreaking to see how unhappy she is, because she is in love with him. It's so sad."
