Madonna Says She’s Basically Picasso

Madonna compared herself to Pablo Picasso

The modern day Pablo, Picasso baby? Madonna made a bold statement in a new interview with the Associated Press, comparing herself to none other than Pablo Picasso.

"I like to compare myself to other kinds of artists like Picasso," the Grammy winner, 56, said simply. "He kept painting and painting until the day he died. Why? Because I guess he felt inspired to do so."

"Life inspired him, so he had to keep expressing himself," Madge added of the iconic artist, who passed away in 1973 at the age of 91. "That's how I feel."

The superstar indeed shows no signs of slowing down as she sees the other side of 50. The "Bitch I'm Madonna" singer, who made her debut more than 30 years ago in the early '80s, released her 13th album this year and is gearing up for a world tour, scheduled to kick off this September.

"I don't think there's a time, a date, an expiration date for being creative," she told the AP. "I think you go until you don’t have any more to say."

Madonna has spoken out in the past about the expectations and restrictions that are placed on her as she gets older. Her most recent album Rebel Heart and its accompanying singles have yet to see the same level of success as her previous efforts, and she is under the impression that her age is a factor.

"My manager [Guy Oseary] said to me, 'If you're not in your twenties, it's hard. You might get your record played in your thirties. There's a handful of people who do – Pharrell [Williams] got lucky. But if you're in your fifties, you can forget it,'" she said in an interview with The Sun this past March. "I didn't know it was anything to do with my age. I just do my work. We've made so many advances in other areas — civil rights, gay rights — but ageism is still an area that's taboo and not talked about and dealt with."
