Video: Mel Gibson Calls Reporter "A**hole"

Celebrity News February 2, 2010 AT 8:05PM

Warning: don't ask Mel Gibson about his controversial past.

Dean Richards, an entertainment reporter for Chicago's WGN-TV interviewed the actor (promoting his new film Edge of Darkness) via satellite on Wednesday. The exchange turned sour (around the 2:15 mark in the clip) when Richards asked the following: "Do you think the public will perceive you any differently after all that's been in the news about you?"

Remember how these celebs snapped?

(Gibson, 54, was arrested in 2006 for DUI -- an incident notorious for the actor's anti-semitic tirade.)

Hear how Brad Pitt teased Mel Gibson about Gibson's DUI

"That's almost four years ago, dude," Gibson snaps after an uncomfortable silence. "I've done all the necessary mea culpas. Let's move on."

Look back on Mel Gibson's sudden (and very expensive!) divorce

Nervous, Richards then wraps up the interview. But before Gibson's satellite feed goes off, the star quips, "bye bye," muttering "a**hole" under his breath.

Watch the tense interview above!

I was a Mel Gibson fan for years, but his attitude recently had destoyed that, I will not go to any of his movies, I have no reason to.

WHy not ask this reporter how he feels about Israeli's and their racist and apartheid treatment of Palestinians in Gaza? I'm sure this reporter would not have kept his cool.

As long as a Jew is the one doing the insulting it's okay. It's okay for Jackie Mason to spout his racist jokes, it's considered funny as long as it's not directed at Jews. The idiots who mention Mel Gibson and the holocaust in the same sentence are just hypocrites and reactionaries. Mel's opinion on the event is of zero relevance. Also let us not forget 70 Million people of all faiths died in WWII, it seems that the holocaust champions never seem to remember this fact or bring it up, they'd rather focus on 6 million of one faith and forget about the other 64 Million 'gentiles' Mel's latest movies actually quite good by the way.

Who gives a crap, if you like Mel's movie go see them, if not don't. Just because he said something about jews, get over it for pete's sake. No one goes ape crap when Jackie Mason spouts is racist garbage jokes because as long as jews are the ones doing the insulting it's okay. Not sure why the holocaust is always brought up in the same sentence as his relevance to the event is less than zero. Also remember 70 million people died in world war II, not just the 6 million number we have drilled into our heads, let's not forge the other 64 Million victims of the war.

Gibson is not sincerely sorry about his past behavior and this is a problem. I don't think he got that he really is anti-semetic. I no longer watch any of his movies!!!! What did he do to fix what he did, Alexandra Solano? Hihat I agree with you -- Mel Gibson did not sufficiently address the holocaust issues etc. His "mea culpas" were insincere Hollywood apologies only!!!

  • February 03, 2010 - 7:52pm Becky

The issue is not whether or not Mel Gibson has done anything wrong, or whether he has apologized enough. The issue is that interviewers continue to play the judgemental card to get ratings, and are disrespectful to people who are total strangers & coming on their show to promote their careers. If I cheat on my husband, that is wrong, but it's not some perfect stranger's job or right to condemn me for it, especially for their own profit.

I love mel he doesnt hold back

  • February 03, 2010 - 4:30pm Shaun

The fact that Gibson says "I did all of the 'necessary' mea culpas" clearly demonstrates the insincerity of his past apologies. He might as well have just said "Hey, I went through the motions. Can't we just forget about it?". The guy is a complete douche bag and I wouldn't pay a dime to go see his movie.

  • February 03, 2010 - 4:11pm Alexandra Solano

Haaaa!!! Yes Dude MOVE ON U A** HO... People make mistakes. End of story. I don't believe Mel thinks he is better than anyone, he had a problem and did what he could to fix it. It's everyone else who won't let go.

  • February 03, 2010 - 2:57pm Sharon

Believe it or not Mel is the one with mud on his face. If he were smart, he'd have been prepared with something that would have turned this into a non-issue. Mel doesn't seem to have improved his behavior, or thought patterns at all. Why shouldn't Mel pay for his poor behavior in lack of movie sales? It seems to be the only voice the regular people have these days.

  • February 03, 2010 - 2:51pm Sharon

Mel can't be accused of being smart! Such ugly behavior. Anyone with even a smidgen of good sense could tell him that he should at least be contrite and not challenge the interviewer! Didn't he know some (interviewers) would bring up his spotted past? Mel clearly is not sorry for anything he's done. His personality is even worse than before. The new lady should pay attention. This is how he will treat her when he's done with her.

Look whose calling the kettle.....I lost repsect for Mel Gibson a long time ago. I was a real fan until he revealed his true self. He thinks that because he is an actor, he is priviledged and can do whatever and say whatever he wants and not get called for it. All the ugly inside him is now reflected on the outside. he used to be sooo cute, and now look what he has done to himself. LOSER!

The only a-hole there was Mel Gibson. At his age 4 years isn't that long and I doubt he really changed much.

  • February 03, 2010 - 12:22pm Bart Cubbins

Good for Mel. This reporter clearly wanted to throw some dirt on the plug for his movie, but Mel called him out.

  • February 03, 2010 - 12:04pm JHo

I like Dean Richards but Mel Gibson is awesome. He's no fake, he saves the acting for the movies.

  • February 03, 2010 - 11:33am Star

The reporter is trying to tell the audience, "Don't go see this movie because Mel might be thinking bad thoughts about Jews even now." It's not about what the audience thinks, it's about what Dean Richards is telling them to think. He is telling them they can never forgive Mel, and should always punish Mel for what he said.
