Holiday hero alert! Meryl Streep had a wonderful Thanksgiving with her family, thanks to a little help from her famous celebrity friend and neighbor Gwyneth Paltrow.
Streep, 65, appeared on Live! With Kelly and Michael on Wednesday, Dec. 3, where she told the tale of how fellow Oscar winner Paltrow saved Thanksgiving.
"My oven didn’t work," Streep recalled to Kelly Ripa. "I hate my oven! I hate it. You never hate your oven more than on Thanksgiving day when it won’t cook the turkey."
The family cooked their turkey for "about 11 hours on low heat," and only the white meat had cooked. The sides, however, were still raw and unprepared. "My brother was in charge of the cooking so I could blame it on him," she joked.
Luckily, Streep received some neighborly love from a fellow superstar, who lives in her NYC building. "In my building is Gwyneth Paltrow," said the August: Osage County actress. "She has the best oven I have ever seen in my life. So I e-mailed her, and they weren’t there."
The Goop goddess, 42, gave Streep permission to enter her apartment and use her kitchen. "So I went over and I did all the sides in her oven," she said. "And my brother was in charge of the turkey that would not cook."
Streep proudly added: "The sides were fantastic."
Ripa, 44, who excitedly wanted more info on Paltrow's Manhattan digs, asked Streep for more intel. "[My daughters] are all equally bad," she said of Mamie, 31, Grace, 28, and Louisa, 23. Streep and husband of 36 years Don Gummar are also parents to Henry, 35. "They had to draw lots for who went with me, but it's a beautiful beautiful place with the best oven I have ever seen in my life."
As for how Streep let herself in? "The doorman let us in," she revealed.
