He's hitched! Nate Berkus tied the knot with his fiance Jeremiah Brent on Saturday, May 3, a source confirms exclusively to Us Weekly. The couple said "I do" in an intimate ceremony at the New York Public Library in New York City -- and Us Weekly has exclusive new details on their special day.
A source tells Us, "The wedding was very moving, everyone was in tears watching Sheri Salata [co-president of the Oprah Winfrey Network] officiate the ceremony, and mention Fernando Bengoechea [Berkus' deceased former boyfriend]. She said, 'We know Fernando will always be in your heart.'"
Berkus and Brent wrote their own vows, and both were fighting back tears as they tried to deliver them to one another. The source added that the vows were "definitely emotional."
The TV personality and designer told his partner, "I can't wait to spend my life with you and start a family together."
A children's gospel choir also sang, representing Brent's family's Christian faith. R&B singer Estelle made a grand entrance singing "American Boy" plus three other songs while walking down the library's steps. Brent's sister also sang at the reception and brought the house down; Berkus' mentor Oprah Winfrey herself rushed up to give her a hug after the moving performance.
Winfrey attended the nuptials, sitting at the head of the table with Berkus, Brent, and their families. Dr. Oz also attended the festivities.
At the reception, guests feasted on farm-to-table fare, including chicken, steak, mac and cheese bites, and plenty of side dishes, which were passed around family style.
DJ Mad Marj played plenty of hits, including Diana Ross' 1980 disco anthem "I'm Coming Out," and the revelry continued until 1 a.m. when the library, by law!, had to be closed.
Us exclusively broke news back in April 2013 that Berkus, 42, and Brent got engaged after dating for nearly nine months. The interior designer popped the question during a trip to Peru, surprising his husband-to-be.
Following their engagement, the pair were phototographed kissing in matching denim outfits in NYC. Three days later, they attended the HRC Marriage for Equality Celebration at the Calvin Klein boutique.
The American Dreams Builder host and Brent (Rachel Zoe's former assistant) first stepped out as a couple back in December 2012. They reside both in NYC and Los Angeles.
The couple left for their honeymoon in Anguilla on Sunday, May 4.
