Oprah Winfrey

Born in 1954 in Mississippi, media mogul and talk show host Oprah Winfrey was raised in poverty and was the victim of childhood sexual abuse.
After moving to Tennessee to live with her father, she landed a radio job while still in high school. She eventually worked her way up to co-anchoring the local news and eventually launched her own production company.
In 1986, The Oprah Winfrey Show debuted and revolutionized the tabloid talk show genre, rocketing Winfrey to billionaire status.
Since then, she has contributed to many charities, started a hugely influential book club, penned books about weight loss, and launched her own magazine, O in 2000.
She also occasionally dabbles in film, giving critically acclaimed performances in films like The Color Purple and Beloved.
