New York Times Suggests Adding Peas to Guacamole, World Flips Out

The Internet freaks out after the New York Times suggests adding peas to your guacamole

Everyone peas relax — but we totally agree — WTF! The New York Times published an article on Wednesday, July 1, suggesting you add peas to your guacamole, and the entire universe is freaking out.

“Add green peas to your guacamole. Trust us,” the Times tweeted, along with a link to its article and a suspicious photo of about seven peas resting atop a fresh mix of perfect-on-its-own guac.

Forget the article — which claims adding peas to guacamole adds an “intense sweetness and a chunky texture to the dip” — because the tweet alone upset the world.

“It's things like this that make me incapable of trust (and therefore incapable of love),” one tweeter wrote, while another simply stated: “@nytimes gtfo.”

Texas GOP, the official account for the state’s republican party, even tweeted back at the Times, declaring it’s officially war, while President Barack Obama also voted a hard no on the recipe twist.

“Respect the nyt, but not buying peas in guac,” Obama tweeted. “Onions, garlic, hot peppers. Classic.” (Obama’s guac essentials sparked its own outrage, but let’s focus on the peas.)

More importantly, another reader pointed out the most absurd part about the recipe — the preparation time.

“@nytimes 45 minutes to make guacamole, are you kidding me?”

But really, there’s a reason everyone pushes peas to the corner of their plate…
