Two years ago, long before their recent split, Sharon Osbourne revealed during The Talk that she once physically harmed herself to prove to her husband, Ozzy Osbourne, just how much she adored him.
The incident took place in an Indianapolis hotel room in the late ’70s. At the time, the now-estranged couple had only recently begun dating and Sharon was visiting the Black Sabbath frontman while he was on tour.
“I permanently scarred my wrist,” the TV personality, now 63, explained in September 2014. “This is a secret only Ozzy and I know … I’ve never discussed it out of embarrassment of how stupid I was at the time to do such a thing to myself … It’s something that was done when I was 27.
“When we first got together, we would drink a lot together. That’s what we did. We had a session of romance, drinking, partying,” she continued. “About four in the morning, he says to me, ‘How much do you really love me? I don’t know if this relationship is going to last.’ And I’m saying to him, ‘I’d do anything for you. I absolutely adore you. I’d give my life for you.’ I’m very dramatic as you all know, and if I say something I like to follow it through. I’m like, ‘I’ll show you how much I love you, I’d die for you.'”
Sharon then recalled grabbing a steak knife from the couple’s room service table and slashing her wrists. She proceeded to show her scars to the Talk audience.
“Unfortunately for me, I kind of went too deep and it wouldn’t stop bleeding. So I’m saying, ‘Dear, I think we’d better call an ambulance.’ I got very sober very quickly,” the mom of three explained. “They put me on lockdown with the psych ward. There was nothing anybody could do. Ozzy and I weren’t married. It was up to doctors to decide whether I was of sound mind to come out … So if anybody out there likes to cut or harm themselves or try to prove to someone … these scars are a big embarrassment.”
Sharon was so embarrassed, in fact, that she lied about how she had injured herself for years. “I tell everyone I was attacked by a dog, which I was. I was attacked by a Doberman, but it was the other arm, and they’re bite marks,” she said on The Talk. “The scars don’t go away, they stay with you. And it’s like, grow up. It’s sad, pathetic.”
Sharon was just as open about her relationship with Ozzy, 67, this week. On Tuesday, she confirmed during The Talk that they’d separated after 33 years of marriage. A source told Us Weekly that Sharon thinks Ozzy is having another affair, while a second insider claimed that Ozzy was cheating with hairstylist Michelle Pugh. (Sharon previously revealed that she had caught him in bed with two of their children’s nannies at once.)
“I honestly cannot thank people enough for their backing me. For saying they love me. For everybody here at my home, supporting me, sending me messages of love,” Sharon said on Tuesday. “I honestly am empowered, and I have found this inner strength, and I’m like right, OK, what’s next?”
