Guess that’s one way to show your appreciation! The Walking Dead’s Norman Reedus deals with plenty of strange things on the set of the hit AMC show, but the actor tells Us Weekly that there are plenty of strange things that come with being a part of the show off-set as well.
“This season filming, I got a two-headed squirrel,” he told Us of one of the weirdest presents he’s ever received during a fan event at Madison Square Garden on Friday, Oct. 9. “A taxidermy squirrel that someone sewed another head onto, it was so weird.”
But the 46-year-old actor wasn’t quite as alarmed as he maybe should have been.
“I actually had it in my house for a while. It was in my living room,” he said. “I gave it away when I moved houses, but I had it for a while. My trailer is full of really weird things people send me, but I like horror movies, so it’s cool.”
In 2013, the brooding actor famously received another bizarre gift from a fan — a breast implant.
“It’s actually my phone cradle in my trailer back in Georgia,” he told Katie Couric on her talk show at the time. “[The fan] said I seem depressed and I should take that to feel better.”
On the show, Reedus plays Daryl Dixon, the series’ resident motorcycle-riding bad boy.
“He’s sort of the wild one in Alexandria, he doesn’t know whether to stay in Alexandria or run and find other people,” he tells Us of what to expect for the upcoming season. “Daryl is still pro-Rick [Grimes, the protagonist of the show, played by Andrew Lincoln]. He really sees Rick as a brother because Rick always has his back.”
On Friday, Reedus made quite the entrance when he rode his motorcycle straight into the Madison Square Garden arena, to the excited screams and delight of fans.
According to an eyewitness, during the Q&A portion of the evening, the actor asked a favor of the audience.
“Every year I sing Happy Birthday to [my son Mingus], so can we, on the count of three, say one big Happy Birthday to Mingus?” he asked the crowd, who all obliged. Reedus’ 16-year-old son waved from the audience.
Also in attendance at the event were show stars Alanna Masterson, Josh McDermitt, Christian Serratos, Seth Gilliam, Sonequa Martin Green, Michael Cudlitz, Chandler Riggs, Danai Gurira, Melissa McBride, Lauren Cohan, Steven Yeun, and Andrew Lincoln.
The Walking Dead Season 6 premieres Sunday at 9 p.m. ET on AMC.
