You Have to See Tom Hanks and Ellen DeGeneres’ Epic ‘Pixar-Off’

When Woody met Dory. Tom Hanks challenged Ellen DeGeneres to a “Pixar-off” during a Friday, September 9, appearance on the comedian’s talk show, as seen in the clip above.

Though the 60-year-old actor paid a visit to DeGeneres’ show to promote his latest film, Sully, he and the host couldn’t help reminiscing about the iconic characters they voiced for two of Pixar’s most beloved computer-animated film franchises. As fans are well aware, Hanks voiced Woody in the Toy Story franchise and DeGeneres voiced Dory in 2003’s Finding Nemo and reprised her role in 2016’s Finding Dory.

“We could have a ‘Pixar-off’ right here. You want to try it?” the You’ve Got Mail star asked the former sitcom actress. “Everybody close your eyes. … Imagine you’re in Pixar land and …”

DeGeneres, 58, immediately launched into her Dory character, spouting off lines that the forgetful fish would likely say, such as “I just wanna keep swimming,” “Where are you going?” and “Who are you?”

Hanks then offered perfectly improvised one-liners that you’d imagine the ever-enthusiastic toy cowboy to say: “Buzz, Andy — look at this fish that’s right here!” he said in Woody’s characteristically loud voice. “Shouldn’t we get you back into the aquarium back in Andy’s room?!”

After they finished their banter, Hanks revealed that vocally portraying Woody is harder than one might think. “Woody is clenched all the time. He’s clenched,” he explained. “My diaphragm is always exhausted after those four-hour, five-hour recording sessions.”
