Tinseltown has lost a legend.

After an eight decades-long career in show biz, Tony Martin passed away Friday at the age of 98 in Los Angeles, The New York Times reports.

Along with his contemporaries Perry Como and Bing Crosby, the smooth-voiced baritone helped popularize the music style that would make singers like Frank Sinatra household names later on.

Martin was as known for his debonair image as he was for his musical talent; the crooner rarely appeared in public without his signature tuxedo. (In the 1950s, young men looking to leave an impression could acquire a tuxedo model dubbed the Tony Martin.)

The "To Each His Own" singer also enjoyed a big-screen career during Hollywood's golden era, appearing in movie musicals like Ziegfeld Girl alongside Judy Garland and Lana Turner.

Martin wed actress Cyd Charisse in 1948; the pair had one child together, Tony Martin Jr., who died in 2011 at age 60. (Charisse passed away in 2008 at the age of 86).
