Walking Dead’s Danai Gurira Is Raffling the Ultimate VIP Fan Package for Charity!

Danai Gurira interview
The Walking Dead actess Danai Gurira is raffling off the ultimate VIP Fan Package -- for charity!

Can’t get enough of AMC’s The Walking Dead? Danai Gurira’s here to help.

The actress has teamed with CrowdRise to raise money for her Almasi Arts Alliance African outreach charity via “The Walking Dead Fan Experience” contest. Together, they are raffling off the opportunity for one lucky fan and a guest to be flown in join her at the AMC hit’s Season 6 premiere at New York City’s Madison Square Garden in October. The winner also gets another trip for two to the thriller’s past filming locations. On the agenda: lunch with Gurira (other castmates will probably tag along), weapons training, and a zombie makeover!

Enlisting the help of fans was a no-brainer for the 37-year-old, who plays Michonne. “We have an astounding fan base,” she tells Us Weekly. “They’re so dedicated to us, so it’s fun to give back to them.”

The Almasi Arts Alliance, which she cofounded in 2011 to facilitate collaborations between African artists and American artists, is equally close to her heart. “It’s very important to me because I’m Zimbabwean and American,” explains Gurira. “Going back to Zimbabwe every year, I see a lot of talented artists — directors, writers, actors, playwrights — who don’t have access to training and opportunities, and this bridges that gap.”

Gurira says her “astoundingly supportive” costars Norman Reedus, 46, and Andrew Lincoln, 41, are also helping sweeten the pot. Fans who donate $15 at www.crowdrise.com/walkingdead through Aug. 30 will also be entered to win a new Samsung Galaxy S6 phone with exclusive photos and videos of the trio. “There will be some goofy pictures,” she promises.

The winner can expect more of the same while hanging with the cast. “I’m a lot goofier than Michonne,” adds the Iowa-born star. “So there will be a lot of chatting and getting to know each other in a cool way.”

As she sums up to Us, “Even I think this sounds fun. If I wasn’t on the show myself, I would enter!”

The Walking Dead returns Sunday, Oct. 11 at 9 P.M. ET on AMC.
