Just kidding! Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig had TV viewers seriously excited after The Hollywood Reporter reported yesterday that they were teaming up for a Lifetime movie — but now, one day later, Ferrell has reportedly pulled the plug on the project.

“We are deeply disappointed that our planned top secret project was made public,” Ferrell told Entertainment Weekly in an exclusive statement on Thursday, April 2. “Kristen and I have decided it is in the best interest for everyone to forego the project entirely, and we thank Lifetime and all the people who were ready to help us make this film.”

Their supposed “top secret project” — which THR promised wasn’t an April Fools’ joke — was titled A Deadly Adoption and was slated to air this summer. Dubbed to Lifetime’s 25th anniversary celebration, the two-hour flick was described as a “high-stakes dramatic thriller” about a husband, played by Ferrell, and wife, played by Wiig, who take in and care for a woman (Jessica Lowndes) in the final months of her pregnancy with the aim of adopting the baby. In true Lifetime fashion, the plot would spiral out of control.

Although news of the project was released on April Fools’, EW reports they had heard about the project months before the prank holiday.
