Want to make a splash at arts and crafts? Karl Lagerfeld is your guy! The Chanel creative director will release the Karlbox beginning September 1, a $2,825 collection of sketching supplies inspired by a Chinese wedding chest.
“A tray of Faber-Castell coloring pencils, as enticing as jelly beans, are never far from Karl Lagerfeld’s elbow,” WWD wrote. The luminary has reportedly used Faber-Castells to create sketches at the Chanel, Fendi and Karl Lagerfeld boutiques in Paris.
The Karlbox will be available at Faber-Castell stores and Karl Lagerfeld boutiques on September 1. On September 19, artistes can grab a Karlbox at select department stores.
Lagerfeld, 82, is all about teamwork. The designer, who counts Kendall Jenner and Cara Delevingne as muses, has also designed bottles for Coca-Cola Light, created beauty products (and a snow globe!) for Sephora and paired with Melissa to craft a pair of flats with cats. But one of the most popular products associated with Lagerfeld is the Karlito: a mink and fox fur Fendi keychain modeled after his likeness. The bag charm, which has white hair and black shades, retailed for $1,750 in 2014 and had a waitlist of hundreds.
The Karl effect even trickles down to his pets. Last year, Lagerfeld told The Cut that Choupette, his Birman cat, raked in $4 million from two jobs.
“One was for cars in Germany and the other was for a Japanese beauty product,” he explained. “I don’t allow her to do foodstuffs and things like this. She’s too sophisticated for that.”
