Catchy idea! Long before Kim Kardashian released Selfish, her book of selfies, in May 2015, Kendall Jenner presented mom Kris with a homemade version.
At the tender age of 14, the Estée Lauder brand ambassador, now 20, gave the momager, now 60, a DIY portfolio titled “Kendall Jenner’s Modeling Photos,” which contained several selfies.
“I remember being 13 or 14 and making the funniest little book for my mom of photos of me that I took,” Kendall told Vogue bookings director Helena Suric during an August 30 podcast. “I was like, ‘I want to be a model and you need to help me.’” Just one week later, Vogue reports, she was signed to her first modeling agency, Wilhelmina Models.
The book actually appeared on a 2010 episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians. And in a clip from the show, Kendall faces a little jealousy from her younger sister, Kylie Jenner.
“I want to show you something,” Kendall begins in the throwback clip. Kris responds, “What is that? Kendall Jenner Modeling Photos? That’s gorgeous — look at that! You look gorgeous! I could make some calls.”
But before long, Kylie walks in and interjects, “If you want to help her model, you can help her model. But it’s just going to get to her head. And all of us are going to be in her little throne path and listening to her. We’re going to be like, ‘Oh my god, you’re right! You’re, like, the coolest person in the family because you model when you’re 14!’”
Without waiting for her family’s reactions, Kylie simply storms out of the room, leaving Kris to wonder, “What’s gotten into her?”
Needless to say, much has changed since 2010. Six years later, Kendall landed the coveted cover of Vogue’s September issue, while Kylie was also featured in an in-book spread.
