Prep Your Skin for Summer's Sexiest Trend
At this year's Golden Globes, Anne Hathaway, Emma Stone and Claire Danes ignited a sexy style trend when they wore backless dresses on the red carpet.
And now that the weather is heating up, celebs like Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Heidi Klum are sporting the latest (and way more revealing) iteration of the look: bare back ensembles that feature plunging necklines.
If you're going to show this much skin, it's essential that your body is bump-and-bleminsh free, as well as bronzed and glowing.
To get rid of body breakouts, cleanse your back and chest with a face or body wash that contains benzoyl peroxide (5% or higher) or salicylic acid (2% is ideal), New York City dermatologist Eric Schweiger tells Us Weekly. Use it with the Clarisonic PLUS, which has an attachable body brush ($225, clarisonic.com) to buff away dead skin cells and remove more dirt and oil than regular washing, says Schweiger. Post-shower, spot-treat zits with the same drying potion that you use on your face.
For really stubborn body acne, ask your derm about prescription medications, chemical peels and laser treatments which are all more effective than OTC at-home options.
In addition to clearing up blemishes, it's crucial to treat your chest area as you do your face. Exfoliate daily with a gentle body scrub or the Clarisonic PLUS in the shower. Also, apply an antioxidant-rich serum and a daily moisturizing sunscreen every day to prevent a rough, "crepe-y" appearance, says Schweiger. We like Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare Hydra-Pure Firming Serum ($95, sephora.com) and Peter Thomas Roth Max All Day Moisture Defense Cream SPF 30 ($42, beauty.com).
Lastly, give your skin a radiant gleam with a tinted bronzing product (you might have to enlist a friend to do your back). Check out Australian Gold SPF Spray Gel With Instant Bronzer ($7.99, australiangold.com) and MAC Skinsheen Leg Spray, which can be used all over ($26.50 at maccosmetics.com).
