On Wednesday night, after attending the People's Choice Awards, Natalie Portman quietly debuted her engagement ring from fiance Benjamin Millepied in L.A.'s Beachwood Canyon neighborhood -- and only UsMagazine.com has the exclusive first pics.

Holding her beloved pooch, Whiz, the pregnant star, 29, looked dazzling in an electric-blue Jason Wu shift dress and mesh Dior pumps -- but the huge diamond ring on her wedding finger nearly stole the show.

Portman met New York City Ballet dancer/choreographer Millepied, 33, on the set of Black Swan (in which the Frenchman had a small role) back in 2009 -- and the sparks were immediate and obvious, a set source says in the new Us Weekly.

"It was seductive to watch them. There was no way the attraction could be missed. I don't think he could help himself -- she's dazzling!" the source says.
As for Portman's baby news? "The pregnancy was a bit of a shock," a Portman insider admits, adding that the buzzed-about actress is 3 months along. "He proposed after they found out. They are happy, and all is right."

@Heather: WOW...I wasn't saying that as a BAD thing. I actually like Natalie, but she seems old-fashioned and serious, which makes me think she would want a totally unusual and uncommon ring. How do you know how attractive or successful I am? At least I have my face up for all to see, you have trees. I doubt Natalie needs you to defend her, especially at the expense of someone else..
Never liked Natalie Portman. She's always got her nose up in the air. There's a difference between being classy and snooty. Meryl Streep and Reese Witherspoon are classy and have great senses of humor, Portman is just a snob who gets irritated by the business and barely participates.
Well I think she's beautiful and the best of luck to her. Shannon, she might be "stuffy" to you, but she's more attractive and successful than you'll ever be.
Call me crazy here, but I think the ring looks not like a diamond, but a cameo. Which wouldn't surprise me..Natalie's a stuffy one from one I have read about her.

Yes, it's very blurry, and makes it very hard to make out the style of the ring. It's a horrible picture. I agree with your last sentence as well.
haha, Diane, are you commenting on the blurriness of the pic? The ring is too big to not notice, but the zoom doesn't do much for it. I hope things go well for the two and that they're getting married because they want to and just because she's pregnant.
