He's still standing -- but Elton John got seriously knocked out by a scary food-borne illness.
In late October, the 62 year-old singer was forced to cancel a string of shows in the U.S. as well as the U.K. after coming down with a dreaded infection.

At Monday's "An Enduring Vision" benefit for the Elton John AIDS Foundation in New York, the recovered John told Usmagazine.com "it was something that I've never had before -- a serious e-coli infection which I got from something I ate."
John isn't sure what offensive food item triggered the frightening bout -- but it certainly wasn't anything concocted by David Furnish, his partner of 16 years.

"No! No! David doesn't cook!"
Whatever it was, after intensive intravenous antibiotics and nine days of close monitoring by doctors, the musician says he's "back and raring to go . . . I'm out and about and I'm good."
John's recovery oddly coincides with a new illness for his touring partner, Billy Joel. On Monday, a San Jose concert for John and Joel's "Face 2 Face" tour was postponed because of Joel's "undisclosed medical reasons."

"I don't know what's wrong on with him," John told Us. "I heard he's sick. I have no idea what's going on with him. "
