Balloon Boy Family: "We Are Tired"

Monday – October 19, 2009 – 1:09pm

The Heenes are taking a time out.

Presumably exhausted by nonstop press appearances since Thursday afternoon, the family behind the "balloon boy" scandal posted a handwritten note on the front door of their Fort Collins, Colo. home this morning.

Will the Heenes brouhaha be as big as these scandals?

Reads the grammar-challenged plea:

"Thank you for all of your support. We are not taking any interview any more. We are tired. Thank you. Heenes"

Richard and Mayumi Heene may face felony charges for staging the helium-balloon disappearance of their son Falcon, 6; the parents of three boys may also be charged by Social Services for conspiracy and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Authorities also believe that the fame-seeking brood received help from Denver's Robert Thomas, who may have plotted a "media stunt" with Richard Heene and, possibly, from an undisclosed media outlet that blurs "the line between entertainment and news," Larimer County Sheriff Jim Alderden told reporters.

TMZ reports that Richard Heene served jail time in the late 90s. In April 1997, Heene, now 43, was charged with misdemeanor vandalism, vehicle tampering and disturbing the peace. He ultimately pled no contest to vandalism -- spending 30 days in jail, with two years of probation and a $100 fine.

He wanted fame and he got it. Whacko. How selfish and cruel to waste everybody's time, money, and concern like that. He should be made to pay it all back and have his kids put in a more stable environment.

i hope if anyone that was supposed to be flying somewhere that day and had their flights delayed SUE THIS PIECE OF TRASH and his IDIOT WIFE. if they don't press charges against them, it will be because "they are so cute and it was an honest mistake."

I'd be embarrassed and hiding if I were them too. It would suck to be the laughing stock of an entire nation. They aren't giving interviews anymore because they are ashamed of their behavior and everyone is against them now.

I'm a little shocked the article writer mentioned their note was "grammar-challenged". Most of the articles posted on this site have 3-4 errors, sometimes with whole words missing.

I for one do not think the parents will ever be deemed fit to take care of their children. The father seems to have a list of issues that need attention. These children need a stable environment

These parents should be prosecuted to the full extent. They should be required to REPAY ALL COSTS for the bogus search for their son. The parents need psychological help. The father has serious anger management issues and the wife needs spousal abuse counseling. The children should be held in protective custody until the parents are deemed fit to take care of them.
