  Women get so defensive about this issue. It is a personal choice. It is stupid to think that by taking the man's name a woman is losing her identity. You are who you are because of your actions not because of your name. If a woman loves a man and wants to take his name what is the problem with that?

  I guess it's her choice. If she wants to do it, so what. Where I live, the woman keeps her last name unless she wants otherwise. Before I got married, I knew I wanted to keep my last name, and I did. But I don't think less of a woman if she chooses to do the opposite. It's good to know we have options. If we support other more controversial choices, why not this one? She has her reasons, and more power to her if she exercises her right to do whatever she pleases with her name.

  Never have understood why the man's name is more "important" than the woman's and normally, at a wedding she's expected to take his. Don't understand why in THIS day and age. Why can't HE take HER last name, his isn't any better. Back in the "olden" days, it was to show "ownership", that the man was taking a woman as his wife, and he basically controlled her and OWNED her. But c'mon, it's 2009! NO ONE OWNS ME! I married and kept MY name, it's MY name. Why would I want to change who I am, just because I'm marrying someone? I would not expect HIM to take my name. NO difference. I think it's sad that women feel they have to change who they are for a man. If my husband had had a problem with who I am and expected me to take HIS name, I would have told him to take a hike. More pathetic are woman who change their religion just to marry a man, because he won't have her otherwise. Like Katie Holmes and scientology, and Ivanka Tump had to turn into a Jew or he would not marry her. Pathetic. Take me as I am, name, religion, whatever, or Take a hike! Everything else I compromise on, but NOT my identity.
