Janet Jackson Confirms Family Staged Drug Interventions for Michael

Wednesday – November 18, 2009 – 10:44am

The Jackson family did their best to stop Michael Jackson's addiction to prescription drugs by staging more than one intervention, Janet Jackson confirms to Robin Roberts in an interview clip which aired on Wednesday's Good Morning America.

"Of course, that's what you do," Jackson, 43, says. "Those are the things that you do when you love someone. You can't just let them continue on that way."

Look back at Janet's tribute performance to her late brother at the 2009 VMAs

"We did a few times," says Janet, the youngest child in the family. "We weren't very successful."

The singer says that her brother responded in a measured way to his family's attempts to help. "He understood that it was out of love, out of caring. But people can be in denial."

When Roberts follows up to ask if Michael was in denial, she replies, "I wish he could answer this question. And not me."

Growing up, Jackson says that of her eight siblings, she was closest to "Mike." The last time she and her brother spent time together was "a few days before my birthday," May 16.

"We had a lot of fun laughing. He was cracking up . . . Laughing at me."

Clearly I don't agree. Your language demonstrates much anger inside you. That is your issue - not mine. If you don't want to be present at the global prayer, then don't be. I will be there out of respect for what this truly beautiful soul accomplished, endured and gave here - and so will millions of others who loved and will always love Michael. November 25th 14:00 LA time www.majorloveprayer.blogspot.com For Michael. Be well.

"Deborah" you're pathetic and just the type of person Michael did NOT need around him. I'll say it again--Stop bringing up the trial--a world love day to justify his innocence? --give me a break--that time has past. The truth already prevailed. Michael grew and evolved since then, have you? It is not the reason he died. We all know it took a toll on him, but that trial did not put too much medication in his system nor did it cause his death. Live in the here and now or justice will never prevail this time. Are there no boards with intelligent life forms?

That idiot killed himself b-c he couldn't live with the guilt of MJs death. He and the media ruined his life,MJ was such a kind human being and super talented. Go see the movie it shows MJ how he was behind the cameras funny, kind, a genious, a perfectionist and loving. There will never EVER be anyone like Michael Jackson and I hope that kid comes clean so Michael can rest in peace. So unfair his death.

Loved the interview, good to see her and she looked great. I love Michael and Janet and there both the only real credits to the Jackson legacy. Miss you much Mike.
  • November 19, 2009 - 12:26pm Deborah Ffrench Says:

The current spin being put on Evan Chandler's death in some quarters of the press is that he killed himself because he was destroyed by what happened to his family. This is a complete fallacy. We must have huge compassion for Jordy right now. Not only did his father force him to lie in 1993, but Jordy was also violently abused by Evan for much of his young life. So much pain was caused by this lie and it set in motion the train of events we are all witnessing now. While it remains to be seen what will transpire in the coming months, the fact remains that Michael's early death was not a given. Only the most imperceptive would deny that the slow drip of the anaesthetic that killed him was, in reality, just a formality. What killed Michael, was the sustained trauma of being put through a baseless, protracted trial that should never have reached court, knowing that if found guilty he would be removed from his children's lives. And even after acquittal, he faced relentless vilification by a media that decided to simply disregard a verdict they found economically inconvienient. The question is why was Michael using? How would any of us fare if we had to endure what Michael did, I wonder? I'm a mess if I miss a deadline at work or if my computer plays up? Imagine living under the pressure Michael did â?? and in public. When he did try to seek help - Rabbi Shmuley for instance; Shmuley abandoned him when he no longer considered it advantageous to be friends with Michael. We saw many of these so-called friends emerge days after Michael died, each looking for their share of the media spotlight, each with a story to sell. These were the kind of people Michael had in his life â?? is it any wonder he was drowning? Good friends are so important, they help us weather the storms of life, they offer us mirrors to ourselves and perspective when we have lost our own. In the early part of Michaelâ??s career he was noted for his abstention from drugs, ironically not even drinking Pepsi. The drugs â?? and by the way, propofol is not a drug used to get high, but rather one that brings loss of consciousness â??came later as a consequence of the catastrophic turbulence which engulfed him from 1993 onwards, and from which he never really recovered emotionally, mentally or physically. Why was a supernovic talent with a history of unparalleled giving and a persona of complex innocence systematically humiliated and stripped of his dignity and spirit for a period of over 15 years on the basis of astonishingly non-credible accusations â?? and more importantly, why this was actively encouraged? I don't know. But I invite all of you to do something incredibly powerful. On the 25th November, millions are coming together at 14:00 LA time in a concerted global prayer for love and healing on this planet. See www.majorloveprayer.blogspot.com for details and time converter information. An intention has also been put into effect. Please add this intention into the effort on the 25th and affirm it in your minds and hearts. 'That the truth of Michael's integrity and the innocence of his relationships with children will be unequivocally known and understood by all on this planet - in our lifetime.' Hold the vision. The truth is coming.

Michael Jackson was the most talented musician that has ever lived. He was the most caring, compassionate, in tuned with nature, music, God, and his environment person. Was Michael Jackson God? I don't know. But now he's gone, dead, passed away and the world needs Michaels music, and harmony and passion and what is the world to do. All I can say is I will never forget Michael Jackson's We Are the World, The Man in THe Mirror, Beat IT, Billie Jean, I mean any of his music. He might have passed on because God needed Michael somewhere else in another way, in another life, in another world or heaven somewhere else. But I just want the world to know, Michael will always be remembered and idolized as the King of Pop and will never die in our hearts. Michael Jackson will always live on in our hearts and through his eternal music. I love you always. King of Pop. Giselle.

Michael Jackson was not a drug addict, propofol is not an addictive drug and that is the drug that cause him to die. Before those 02 concert were annouced MJ was not a regular user of that drug. He may of used it in the pass when he toured so that he could sleep, but had stopped since the history tours ended.Dr Murray was only hired two months before MJ died. So that would of ment MJ was not taking the drug all that time. The autopsy report shows that all Michael's organs were HEALTHY and there was not a thing wrong with them .DRUG ADDICTS DO NOT HAVE HEALTHY ORGANS. And MEL yes the media and evil people were the ones responsible for Michael having sleepless nights. I am sure if you had to go through just a pinch of all the negative press MJ went through, you would of killed yourself by now. It is so easy to talk when we are not in the situation.

I don't know about all this drug stuff. It seems to me that if Michael was all that strung out on all this stuff that he would have been like a zombie, and how could he have danced like a 20 year old the day before? Doesn't make much sense to me. I find it all very hard to believe. Also, even illigal drugs causes personality changes. Why didn't any of us see any of that. To me the doctor is responsible. I hope they never let him practice medicine again. If it weren't for him, Michael would still be here.

Is there no integrity left in the world ? Stupid me, I thought Janet would speak-up to the media channel that is greatly responsible for her brothers demise. Just last night, ABC had the audacity to have M Bashir host a special report on Michael. (I wouldn't watch it) I liked the hat for her new video & taken a-back by the theatrical shoulders for it in more ways than one. And those earings. No, Janet they didn't distract me from your eyes & justified (?) smile. Janet, you do have a beautiful smile but couldn't you have chosen to make $ from more dignified media ? Is there any ? ABC of all channels. . . I hope she gives the $ to one of the charities for children that Michael supported.

Opportunist....Opportunist....Opportunist....She looks more and more like her father in a wig every day and all you Janet FANATICS are determined to pretend that its just coincidence that she is speaking out when she has an album to promote. ABC paid her good money to grieve publicly and state the things that her sister Toy stated a LONG TIME ago.

Talk about not letting someone get over the past. We all know there were issues (some on display-some not) in the 90's and early 2000s but some of you will hold him down in that period for eternity. Just as he said in an interview-if he says ONE thing people lock onto it and never forget it. How would some of you like to live that way. Something you may have said or done that is irrelevant today, gets held out like you said it 5 minutes ago. He was moving on for his kids and he had to trudge through all of this bull and his own stress as anyone who has not been in full concert in over a decade would have. Stop bringing up the trial--a world love day to justify his innocence?--give me a break--that time has past. It is not the reason he died. We all know it took a toll on him, but that trial did not put too much medication in his system nor did it cause his death. Live in the here and now or justice will never prevail this time.

WE ALL LOVED MIKE JACKSON FOR HIS TALENTS. BUT HE WAS A DRUG ADDICT AND CHOSE NOT TO GET HELP, JUST LIKE MANY DRUG ADDICTS DON'T CHOSE TO GET HELP. HIS BECOMING A DRUG ADDICT IS NOT THE PUBLIC'S FAULT, OR ANY MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL'S FAULT. HIS BECOMING A DRUGGIE WAS HIS OWN FAULT, NOT OURS!!!!!!STOP BLAMING THE MASS POPULATION THAT DID NOT EVEN KNOW MICHAEL FOR HIS DRUG PROBLEMS!!!HE KNEW HE WAS ADDICTED AND HAD PROBLEMS, AND IT'S IS NOT AMERICA'S FAULT THAT HE IS DEAD, IT'S HIS AND KATHERINE'S AND JOE'S. JOE WAS THE ONE THAT BEAT ALL THOSE KIDS AND KATHERINE STOOD BY AND LET HIM DO ALL THAT BEATING.

I agree with Deborah French. But he was addicted years ago and the second allegations and then the trial pushed him to need stuff to function. Did you people not see him walkin into court lookin all frail. It was sad. Them doctors should be held accountable because knowing someone was an addict, they should have never prescribed him things and so on. Its all really sad cause "the public/media had alot to do with his death :(

but WHEN were these interventions attempted? if Janet ever does see This Is It she would see that if he was a continuous drug user NOW he would not have been able to move and recover balanced in the way he appeared in the movie. He may not have been eating and drinking as he should have with all the stress which can cause lethargy, dizziness, insomnia, and other symptoms, but I do not believe he was an active round-the clock drug user. If he still used propofol for sleep then THIS is in bad judgement and irresponsible on his part, but the health professional who was the doctor that administered the medication should have known what he was doing and should have had the correct life-saving equipment accessible and should have carried out life-saving techniques to the height of his ability rather than trying to cover himself when things went wrong.

@Kate you do not know what hell you are talking about. Drug Addiction is not a choice. Notice the word "addiction"... Heroin addicts after about 6 months of usage become dependent upon the drug to merely survive. Drug addiction becomes neccessary once you become addicted. It takes serious treatment and medical care to be freed from a drug addiction. I was once addicted to my sleep medication, so much so that I couldn't sleep without it once I became addicted to it. Once that took place I literally began to take 4- pills a night in order to even sleep a few hours. It is a sickness. It is a disease that requires serious treatment. Treatment Michael Jackson never got. The people around him enabled him. That is the worse kind of addiction when you are now having people help you kill yourself. In Michael Jackson's case he was so famous and so powerful in his own world that no one could help him. He was a prisoner in his own hell and unfortunately no one could free him.
