Jesse McCartney is opening up about her mindset as she prepares for the arrival of his and wife Katie Peterson’s second baby.
“I’m pumped. Very excited,” McCartney, 39, told TMZ on Thursday, October 8, adding that being a “girl dad is different.”
McCartney noted that he has “no idea what it’s going to be like,” but is “very psyched” about soon having both a girl and a boy in their family.
“I told my wife, if it was two boys, we might be going crazy. So I got one of each and maybe we can call it there. We’re even. Nobody’s outnumbered in the house,” he said. “But we’re very excited. It will be nice. Our first boy is such a good kid and everything you want in a son so I imagine our daughter will be the same.”
McCartney also reflected on the pair welcoming their son, Archer, three months before his scheduled due date in 2025. Their newborn ultimately spent 70 days in the NICU before the proud parents were allowed to take him home.
“We’re trying to not think of the worst and trying to go into this cautiously optimistic I should say,” he said. “So far everything is going great and mom is doing well. Being a NICU parent can definitely cause a little PTSD but so far everything is great and mom is staying healthy.”
Days before, McCartney and Peterson announced that they are expecting their second child. The couple shared several maternity photos at the time, including one of Archer pointing to Peterson’s stomach as she and McCartney smiled.
“Archer is getting promoted to big brother 🤍 March 2027,” the pair wrote via Instagram at the time.
McCartney and Peterson, who tied the knot in 2021, later shared that they are expecting a baby girl and “couldn’t be happier” about the news.
“Once we had the most amazing boy, and I could check that off the list, I remember telling Katie, ‘I’ll love this baby no matter what, but like…if it’s another boy, we may be going for three,’” McCartney joked to People earlier this month, while Peterson added, “I’ve been in such boy mom mode that it’s crazy to think about boys and tutus, but I am so ready. I think she’ll bring the perfect balance to our little family. We feel incredibly lucky to get to experience a son and now a daughter as well. And I’d be lying if I wasn’t most excited to watch Jesse be a girl dad.”
