Better luck next year, Angelina Jolie!

The 36-year-old earned a Golden Globe nomination for her directorial debut, In the Land of Blood and Honey, but the actress didn't earn an Academy Award nomination Tuesday. Though many critics predicted the film would be a contender in the Best Foreign Language Film category, Jolie's movie was shut out by Bullhead (Belgium), Footnote (Israel), In Darkness (Poland), Monsieur Lazhar (Canada) and A Separation (Iran).

While The Iron Lady's Meryl Streep earned her 17th Academy Award nomination Tuesday -- an all-time record! -- Charlize Theron (Young Adult), Tilda Swinton (We Need To Talk About Kevin), Kirsten Dunst (Melancholia), Kristen Wiig (Bridesmaids) and Elizabeth Olsen (Martha Marcy May Marlene) were ignored in the Best Actress category.

Shame's Michael Fassbender, 34, J. Edgar's Leonardo DiCaprio, 37, and The Ides of March's Ryan Gosling, 31, were similarly left out of the Best Actor category, despite being in the running at the Golden Globes. Instead, George Clooney (The Descendants), Brad Pitt (Moneyball), Gary Oldman (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy), Jean Dujardin (The Artist) and Demian Bichir (A Better Life) will all vie for the honor.
The 84th Annual Academy Awards airs Sunday, February 26 at 7 p.m. EST.

14Again, please stop inflaming situations with false information. Ms. Jollie could never have been nominated for best foreign language film because of the submission requirements. Foreign language films must be submitted to the Academy by the Country of origin. In this case, the United States of America. Everyone is going on and on about nothing.

Leonardo is one of my favorite actor and let's be honest here: the best of his generation. I cannot wait to see his face the day he will FINALLY win his first Oscar. Not gonna be this year, apparently...... :(
I really think it's ridiculous that Michael Fassbender and Ryan Gosling were not nominated. I also find it disappointing that Harry Potter was given no recognition, even the final installment of The Lord of the Rings recieved and won the nomination. I think Brad Pitts performance is overrated...but I don't feel he's that talented. He does comedy well, but that's about it. As for his partner...she's probably the least talented Female in Hollywood aside form Halle Berry.
LOL, now I know how much USmagazine needs Angelina and Brad Pitt..to sell their magazine .
Some of the nominations I was expecting, but no Ryan Gosling or Leo DeCaprio? I am shocked. I mean they are some of Hollywood's greatest actors.
Angelina's film didn't qualify, so it wasn't snubbed in any way.
I think that Bryce Dallas Howard was SO good as Hilly in The Help, she deserved a supporting nod.
Us Weakly is pathetic as always. Never fail to use Angie or Brad's name to get hits. Why not better luck next year Leo, or Charlize or Michael Fass.
No Steven Spielberg as Best Director for Warhorse yet his movie is nominated. Translated, War Horse has no chance of being Best Picture.
@Kate Harrop, to be honest, the Oscars just honor american movies and american stars, every second french movie is better than a american acadamy award winner movie. still there are great american movies but the oscars does not go out to the best movies or best actors!
ah its her first movie, whatever. but still, angelina is big enough to make THAT a headline?? Wow, just shows how BIG she is and how MUCH usmagazine needs her! @Ella Vahn, i agree 100%
Life is not fair, the Academy should look at it all. The Actors work hard and I just wonder if they look at this and say, I do act, what gives. Enough said
Angelina was not snubbed Her film was NOT eligible for the Best Foreign Language Film at all. It need not meet all the requirements to be eligible to be nominated. It is not a snub when your film isn't allowed to be nominated in the first place. Angelina herself said at the PGA's that their film expected nothing at the Oscars.
