Having auditioned for American Idol's 11th season on a whim, Colton Dixon sure made it pretty far in the competition — though not as far as some fans would have liked.

Eliminated from Idol Thursday amid audience boos, Tennessee's Dixon, 20, apologized to the show's judges, Jennifer Lopez, Randy Jackson and Steven Tyler, for the performance that eventually did him in.

"I need to apologize. I wasn't myself last night, and I get it," Dixon said, recalling his Thursday night rendition of Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance." Dixon — who also performed Earth, Wind and Fire's "September" — told Idol's judges he'd take their feedback and put it to use "when I'm making a record."

Dixon, whose exit comes one week after fan favorite Jessica Sanchez was saved from elimination by the judges, has no hard feelings about his ouster. "I'm a little overwhelmed, but besides that I'm good," the singer — who intends to pursue a career in Christian music — told Us Weekly after Thursday's show. "I know God will use me to do other things."

Hollie Cavanagh and Elise Testone, who were named to the bottom three with Dixon, will get another chance to sing next week, along with fellow top five contestants Sanchez, Skylar Laine, Joshua Ledet and Phillip Phillips.
