Daniel Radcliffe: Harry Potter Deserved More Oscar Nominations

Despite being the highest-grossing film franchise of all-time, Harry Potter has never received much love from the academy.
The eighth and final film in the series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, scored only three nominations in the technical categories at the 84th Annual Academy Awards -- something Daniel Radcliffe isn't too happy about.

"I don't think the Oscars like commercial films, or kids' films, unless they're directed by Martin Scorsese," Radcliffe, 22, tells Radio Times (as excerpted by The Guardian). "I was watching Hugo the other day and going, 'Why is this nominated and we're not?' I was slightly miffed."

Says Radcliffe: "There's a certain amount of snobbery. It's kind of disheartening. I never thought I'd care. But it would've been nice to have some recognition, just for the hours put in."

Six of the eight Harry Potter films have been nominated for Academy Awards, though only in the Best Art Direction, Best Costume Design, Best Original Score, Best Visual Effects, Best Makeup and Best Cinematography categories. None of the movies have ever won.

Tell Us What You Think
10It's only because they don't like kids' movies or fantasy movies. A movie needs to have "redeeming social value" or explore some big controversial issue in order to get nominated. Or it must be historical (War Horse), be big on cultural value (The Descendants) or make some sort of nod to film history (Hugo). Either way, the key to a Best Picture nomination is to focus on humanistic affairs rather than action and adventure. I could make a movie about a mentally ill drug addict hobo and his path to recovery & healing with the help of a woman who he meets in a coffee shop and how he discovers some deep profound message about life. Just add schmaltz and -BLAM!- Instant Oscar. Oscars = not worth anyone's time anymore. But in any case, the one thing that we all can take comfort in is the fact that many other classic movies, ones considered to be among the greatest films of all time, such as Indiana Jones movies and Jurassic Park, never won/were nominated for Best Picture. Harry Potter is still immortalized, even if it didn't get what it rightfully deserved.
They are just a bunch of big snobs.
Of course! Ten years of dedication, ten years making the dream come true!Harry Potter DESERVE Academy Award!!
They deserved it!!! It was 10 years of pure dedication , and hard work !!!
YES!!!! But the Academy Awards Jury is so corrupt.... They probably all talk and say: ok, doesnt matter if this movie is good, but this guy is a friend of mine and he should win... so stupid
HARRY POTTER DESERVES ALL OF THE AWARDS¬¬¬ TEN YEARS. TEN BLOODY YEARS OF QUALITY ENTERTAINMENT AND THIS IS HOW THEY'RE REPAID? They deserve WAAAAAYYY more nominations.
just the transformation on the actors and their performances........the academy should be ashamed................ it doesn't matter if its commercial or a kids film. it's freakin' fenomenal, ralph fiennes, helena bonham carter, i could go on and on..... but it seems that to be nominated you have to "buy" your way in it
they deserve it!
Yes I think they do I don't think it is far at all the fans agree they deserve it they had such amazing acting jobs. Emma watson was amazin she should have gotten a nom I also think the last two movies deserved noms.
