Eddie Redmayne: My Wife and I Love Friends, Stalked Jennifer Aniston

Still a fan! Eddie Redmayne already has a Golden Globe Award and Screen Actors Guild Award to his name, and is the odds-on favorite to win the Best Actor Oscar at next month’s Academy Awards, but the breakout star continues to get starstruck and giddy around his Hollywood counterparts.

The British actor, 33, appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Tuesday, Jan. 27, and admitted that he gets very excited about meeting big-name celebrities.

“It’s sort of kid in a candy store,” Redmayne told Jimmy Kimmel about his opportunities to rub shoulders with other movie stars at this season’s awards shows. “It’s all these people that you’ve long admired.”

The Les Miserables star got many nods in recent months for his impressive work in the Oscar-nominated drama about Stephen Hawking’s life, The Theory of Everything. Just last week, he took home the honor of Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role at the SAGs — beating out Steve Carell for Foxcatcher, Benedict Cumberbatch for The Imitation Game, Jake Gyllenhaal for Nightcrawler, and Michael Keaton for Birdman — and was awarded the statue by one very famous face.

“SAG Awards it was Julia Roberts, which was pretty breathtaking,” Redmayne told Kimmel of the star who presented him with his SAG award. “My dad’s favorite film is Pretty Woman so as a kid, I think at an inappropriate age, I was watching Pretty Woman. This moment happens when your name gets read out and it’s such sort of extraordinary euphoria and it’s kind of white noise, it all goes into a sort of blur.”

“Then suddenly, there I was hugging Julia Roberts,” he continued. “And then I was meant to sort of be articulate and all I could think of was, ‘I wanna tell my dad!’ It was amazing… we had a long conversation afterward.”

Raised by his father and mother in London, Redmayne recently tied the knot, marrying his longtime love Hannah Bagshawe. He proposed to the financial publicist in May 2014, and they exchanged vows this past December. He told Kimmel that Bagshawe got some excitement for herself as Redmayne continues to pick up accolades.

“My wife and I love Friends,” rising star spilled. “We saw Jennifer Aniston at a party and we were just incredibly inappropriate. We so wanted to meet her that we sort of literally stalked about four meters behind her for an entire evening.”

“Eventually I think she was like, ‘Okay!'” he added. “So we got to meet her and she was as beautiful and wonderful as you’d expect her to be… She could’ve turned around and slapped us for being stalkers.”
