Fantastic! Marvel surprised fans on Sunday, April 19, with the first full-length trailer for the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot.
The action flick has been in the works for more than five years, and as the release date finally approaches, superhero enthusiasts are getting an early look at the film. Marvel describes the latest take on Fanastic Four as "a contemporary re-imagining of Marvel's original and longest-running superhero team [that] centers on four young outsiders who teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe, which alters their physical form in shocking ways. Their lives irrevocably upended, the team must learn to harness their daunting new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend."
The electric new preview opens with sweeping shots of Manhattan before Reg E. Cathey (House of Cards) is introduced as Dr. Franklin Storm. As a dreary outlook for the planet is presented, the doctor teases his secret weapon, Reed Richards aka Mister Fantastic, played by rising star Miles Teller (The Spectacular Now, Whiplash).
"He knows answers to questions we don't even know to ask yet," Storm says of the celebrated inventor and scientist. "This is our chance to learn more about our planet and maybe even save it," Storm continues, going on to introduce his daughter Susan Storm aka Invisible Woman, played by Cathey's House of Cards costar Kate Mara, and his son Johnny Storm aka Human Torch, played by Teller's That Awkward Moment costar Michael B. Jordan.
Toby Kebbell (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) rounds out the starring cast, playing the crew's one-time friend Victor Domashev and eventual enemy Dr. Doom. When the group makes its way to the next dimension, they are faced with huge challenges, and even their new powers may not be enough to save them.
Fantastic Four will hit theaters on Aug. 7, and a sequel is already in the works for 2017. Watch as the superhero pals take on Doom in the video above!
