Gilles Marini and Kirstie Alley were sent home in a shocking double elimination on the Nov. 13 Dancing With the Stars: All-Stars results show, and while Alley, 61, took her outster in stride, Marini struggled to come to terms with his early exit.
"One thing I have is a work ethic. I'll work until I drop dead. . . [but] sometimes it doesn't matter how hard you work," Marini, 36, reasoned to Us Weekly backstage after he and pro Peta Murgatroyd got the boot. "Sometimes it doesn't take just hard work, it takes something else, and that's something else I will have to find in my life because hard work just doesn't cut it sometimes."
Though he earned 92 out of 100 possible judge and viewer points after dancing the salsa on Nov. 12, Marini argued that the low score he received two weeks prior during the swing marathon dance cost him a spot in the semi-finals. "Even if I had scored three 10s on Monday's show I wouldn't be [going to the semi-finals)," the actor said. "The marathon just did me in."
After the taping, Marini took to Facebook to apologize to his DWTS fans. "I am so sorry about the elimination. I feel like I let you guys down somehow," he wrote. "We worked so so hard every single day to bring the best dances possible, yet came out short! Life!"
Following the double elimination, celebs Kelly Monaco, Melissa Rycroft, Apolo Ohno, Emmitt Smith and Shawn Johnson will advance to the next round in their quest to take home the coveted mirror ball trophy.
