Jamie Dornan, Fifty Shades of Grey star and Oscar winner? According to Kelly Marcel, screenwriter for the upcoming Fifty Shades adaptation, Dornan's performance in the raunchy flick is enough to earn him an Academy Award.
Marcel, who adapted E L James' best-selling novel for the big screen, recently spoke about Dornan, 32, and his turn as the S&M-loving businessman Christian Grey. The writer, 40, sat down for a chat with Reza Aslan at Hollywood's DBA venue on Wednesday, Aug. 6, for a session of Aslan's Writer's Room series.
She quoted one of the memorable lines said by Anastasia Steele (played by Dakota Johnson) in Fifty Shades, which references Christian Grey's "popsicle." Marcel explained, "She says that, 'You are my popsicle.' That line went in, it's genius. They apparently did that scene great."
"Apparently Jamie is great at being soft and hard at the same time," Marcel continued, stealing a phrase from Fifty Shades. "Which is hard to do for an actor!"
Dornan's versatility is so impressive that it deserves an award, according to Marcel, who added, "He's going to get an Oscar!"
Fans and critics alike will be able to judge Dornan's hyped acting chops when Fifty Shades of Grey hits the big screen in February 2015. Marcel also teased the famously boundary-pushing sexual content of the flick, which has reportedly been teetering over an R-rating.
